.....If you choose to accept it is......
Find me a stub axle.
It's got to be.
*rear axle of a front wheel drive
*Bolt on
*disc braked with a minimum of a 250 disc
*Ford PCD - 4/108 (or re-drillable to 4/108)
I was thinking Escort mk 5/6, the only ones with disc brakes are the 1.8Si (130ps) 92-96, XR3i (130ps) 92-95 and the RS2000 (2wd/4wd) 91-96. Other
possibilities are Audi 80/90/100, Peugeot/Citroen FWD.
Did these Cars (particularly the Escorts) have a bolt on rear stub axle? I can't find anything on the web, so I'm asking the experts!
cheers
Chris
The latter fiesta had bolt on rear hubs with Drums.
Just had my new toy around them lol
I know its not directly what you asked but it is related ....
Escort
rear hub bolts to axle via 4 bolts in a square pattern.
friend of mine uses them in trailer builds.
VW Golf MK III and IV does pretty much the same, but the PCD is 100mm.
If you want disc brakes, the Audi 80 looks like a good idea as it has the 108mm PCD.
I'm done.
Blimey big_wasa, is that a 'how to' about converting a drum brake to disc ..... the ultra locost way?
Not sure but I think the Focus has bolt on stub axles and some have rear discs. Next time I see one I will check
the focus is prone to wheel bearing failure though
No more so than any other car and if used in a lightweight car they would last longer.
volvo 440/480
Thanks chaps!
I looked at a picture of the focus set-up and it looks like the stub axle is part of the rear "blade".
it seems that the Escort might be the answer, although they're not very thick on the ground.
The Volvo isn't on my "4/108" list, is it suitable for re-drilling?
Anyone know about the Peugeots? - I've been told that the 206 might do?
Cheers and thanks again
Chris

I'll look at the volvo bits, shame about the 206.
Thanks again
Chris
well, I wanted to use pug front hubs for my rear custom uprights, but they use massive bearings.. so opted for smaller fiesta / escort units.. nice
tiny bearings..
I also had a look at the escort/fiesta rear hubs and that is what you might be looking for... I would guess in the UK there is a plentifull supply...
I think so too, although not as many Escorts/Fiestas had rear discs as you'd think, only the mk5/6 1.8 Si (130 PS) Xr3i (130 PS) and the 2wd and
4wd RS2000 Escorts had rear discs. I haven't looked at the later Fiestas yet.
Thanks for all the help chaps
Cheers
Chris
Drum braked Focus has a bolt on stub axle but I haven't seen a disc braked car today, will let you know.
Thanks mate!
maybe stupid and if so forget fast..
i know the FORD KA uses a complete rear bridge / axle is that what you want?
Tks
No, it's for a fabricated front upright, thanks.
Cheers
Chris
