Top seat belt mounts - pics?
speedyxjs - 27/3/09 at 08:12 AM

I want to make my top seatbelt mounts today. My plan is to weld another tube parallel with the top of the back rest (where the roll bar is mounted), and weld my mounts in there. The mounts i have are 3mm plate with a welded nut in the centre.
After rough measurements, i know that my belts need to be mounted about an inch higher than this point so what i want to know is, can i make the mounts, then use a sleve over the thread to raise the mounts?

Pics of your mounts would also be helpful

sounds like you'll be introducing a bending action.

why not weld another bar between the roll bar vertical stays and mount off that?

Not sure the mountings are to clear from this pic although it may help?

Best pic I can find of mine is here:
http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/upload/4test_at_the_centre.jpg

It's a tube welded between the rollbar uprights. (at correct height for the seats/seatbelt mountings height IIRC about 100mm).

I drilled 4 holes through the tube and welded 4 tubes through it that had 12mm holes through them. The 4 tubes were set at the centres of the seatbelt holes.

I didn't use welded nuts as although they're cool if your seatbelts are fitted with normal bolts, if you use 'eyes' then the threads need to be set so the eyes are in the correct orientation.

Mine is a threaded tube that I put all the way trough a piece of 2x1 and then welded both sides. I then added a bit of 3mm plate on top and welded that all the way round. I then put the whole thing between two rails and welded the whole thing all the way round.

Why not just weld the tube in an inch higher up ?

Hi ,hope this will help as a guideline ,Mounts that are acceptable to sva .all tubes should be welded from the sides and of good weld condition .
not acceptable is tube or nuts welded end on and of poor weld.
Just weld a bar across your roll cage the height of your belt cut outs on your seat.

I welded another bar across my rollcagfe as you say. Drilled out 4 off 25mm holes right through the bar (from front to back not top to bottom) and fitted solid bar that was drilled and tapped for the eyebolts.
No pics online but could take some if you want.
