Hi
Anyone got any recommendations please for reasonable quality good value freestanding garage shelving?
Cheers
Mike
Got some stuff like this that does me good
https://www.toolstation.com/eco-shelving-bay-with-chipboard-she
lves-5-tier/p71743
Just slots together - no bolts.
I've got 4 of these https://www.screwfix.com/p/5-tier-steel-heavy-duty-shelving-900-x-450-x-1800mm/165pv when they were £50 per 2.
old dexion - occasionally on gumtree or ebay
or the new equiv from
BigDUG
I like old dexion, very solid, a friend has a workbench and rack combo from BigDUG - solid too - just more costly
HTH
+1 for the dexion / big dug HEAVY duty stuff - I’ve bought the cheaper end of stuff before and while it’s OK for the first time you put it together I
found it a nightmare to take apart because it’s quite flimsy and doesn’t then go together well the next time..
Also be careful with the shelf material, the thinner stuff warps under weight during the winter when they get a bit soggy. Ended up replacing all my
cheap shelf material with 12mm osb which was better for stability in damp conditions and then replaced the lot with the dexion system with I think
either 18 or 22mm chipboard shelves which has been great for four workshop moves
I got some from BigDug during lockdown. I didn't need heavy gauge but didn't go for the lightest either (don't recall which exactly).
It was pretty solid once assembled despite the components feeling a bit flimsy. Not convinced it'd be as solid if taken apart and rebuilt but it
was a lot less faff than dexion with nuts and bolts.

all I'll say is make sure you also fix it to the wall

I made myself a workbench using some old 4x2 timber I had and a cheap bit of kitchen worktop from Wickes. Sturdy enough and space underneath, but no drawers to keep stuff tidy in.

Spot on - having things stored well just makes them so much easier/faster to find and put back (keep tidy).
That said, I lost my garage (integral to the house) as we converted it to a bedroom for one of the kids (cheaper than moving house). The issue I have
now is a bicycle mad son with several bikes + my bikes + other family bikes. Storing bikes is hard work - making sure everyone's got good access
to them.
+1 for BigDug

+1 bigdug - just choose a model based on your needs (ie. shelf strength and metal thickness). Have two set's cheap ish versions o.k. but don't like being moved heaver duty would be better if you can afford it or build some from 2x4...
