Thinning Halfords paint
givemethebighammer - 6/7/08 at 11:33 AM

I bought a couple of tins of colour matched paint (mixed for me) from Halfords a while back. I'd initially just used them for small repairs, just brushing it on and then using glasspaper and cutting compound to finish it off.

I now need to spray a bigger area, anyone know what thinner I need to use ? I have all kinds of solvents already so I'm not buying a tin of anonymous 'Halfords Paint Thinner'

thanks

I *think* they use Holt's paints...If you can see the mixing desk, take a squiz...

Just googled for holts paints, the simoniz aerosols they make have a solvent base of 60% acetone and 30% toluene.

Standard cellulose thinners or celluose ant-bloom thinners, if you haven't a handy automotive supplier near you try Paints4U

http://www.paints4u.com/productsbyCat.aspx?MainCategoryID=5&MainSelection=19&SubCategoryID=107&Subselection=2

But watch the carriage cost as it has to go by courier

They are also very good for supplying paint.

I sprayed the Epona model with the halfords paint and thinned it with cele thinners, no problem.
