O/T Van Insurance

A bit off track but I know you guys will have some experience.
I'm looking at getting a van, this will be my first so I have no experience of how general insurance firms treat them.
I'm currently insured with esure for my road car which the van will replace. The van will be used as a daily runner for me for commuting, I've sold the idea to the wife for taking the family on holiday with all the baggage / bikes / scooters / surf boards etc but the real reason will be towing my kit car to events .
I work for the local highways dept, as such I need to use my vehicle to get around to various offices and sites, I never carry works equipment nor do I go on building sites etc, it's just for getting me from one place to another.

I haven't bought one yet so haven't approached esure to see how they will react, they may just say fine 'x' pound s extra although I doubt it will be that simple.

Are there specialist van insurer's, can anyone suggest any. The van will more likely or not be a Trafic / Vivaro /Primastar with 5 or 6 seats.

TIA and Merry Xmas

I use my L200 as a private car, for insurance it is classed as a commercial, I use Liverpool Victoria, always been very fair, think I paid just under £300 fully comp, with max ncb.

Esure do pretty competitive van insurance called evan funnily enough most of thier policies include breakdown cover if memory serves used them a few years back and they were OK, if your over 50 try Saga.
Cheers,
Bob

My VW T4 is insured with Just Kampers I don't have any business use or anything like that but used as a daily driver and I have a policy that covers me to do what ever I want to it inside (camper conversion or have seats in the back or have it empty etc) and its all included in the one premium and its vet reasonable. From memory it's about £210 fully comp and that's with 18" Audi alloys on I'm 30 decent post code full no claims 20,000 miles a year etc. Certainly worth a call in my opinion.

Just Campers for me too. Most companies I tried wouldn't allow the no claims to transfer back to a private car, just campers also allow modifications to be done without upping the premium. If your going for a van mate it got to be a VW im running a T5 104bhp business miles declared £450 if I remember correctly
