Cant think what they would be tested for?
I hope not! Mine had rust holes in them which was mirrored underneath the rest of the MX5. Can't see why they would be required for IVA, guess
they are supposed to stop too much crud getting around the brake gear but I assume this will depend how exposed the brakes will be in whatever set up
they are used in.
Not using them on the SR2 and from the SR2 builds I have seen thet are on the road most seem to be missing.
Their real function is as splash shields. ---
A bit of motoring trivia they were developed by Girling engineers in the late 1950's when developing brakes with the Rootes Group for the Minx
based dart shaped Sunbeam Alpine. Rootes had both Lockheed and Girling biding for the contract but Rootes found both systems were suffering from
excessive brake pad wear Girling engineers made a breakthrough and discovered the excessive wear only occured a in wet weather and cured the problem
with the splash shields.
Girling won the contract and supplied the brakes for the Alpine and the big Humbers but strangely 4 years later the contract for the disk brakes for
the higher volume models in the Minx range went to Lockheed.
