Reverse box alignment
strikerbird - 1/3/14 at 07:24 PM

Had chance to take the striker out for the first time today with the new quaife reverse box.

I was expecting the clunking and clattering that comes with the box but I also have a lot of vibration from the new props that I didn't expect

I've mounted the box inline with the tunnel so the rear prop to the axle is in line. Because the output of the bike engine is tight to the one side of the tunnel the front prop runs on an angle. Should I remount the box on an angle to the tunnel to straighten up the front prop. So basically the front flange of the reverse box would be closer to the drivers side of the tunnel.

Hope that all makes sense.

I'm a bit gutted its cost over a grand with the box and new props, so any advise would be greatly appreciated.

I feel your pain!
I split the angle with my MNR box on a slight angle so that each prop set has a similar amount of angle.
Vibration is occasioanl and not serious mainly under load at 60-80 , but it is unnerving and making me wish i hadnt bothered
I'm goig to get the box checked by MNR else try a bit of fine adjustyment on he box position to see if I can dial it out.

It was perfect with the old props and no reverse box, but not having reverse is a nightmare where we live.

Thought it would make it so much more usable but I'm not sure I want to drive in now!

If I was viewing the car to buy it I'd walk away, so annoyed

Mmmm something not right somewhere.

I had a quaife on my MNR and it ran without issue.
As far as I can remember the rear propshaft was in line with the diff and the front was slightly offset due to the engine position.
I'll connect the hard drive with my build pictures later and have a look if you you think it might help ?

Hi
We fitted an MNR rev box in line with the tunnel like you
& new props plain at the front & TST at the rear.
Like you great vibrations.
It turned out to be the new props were not balanced
properly, sent them back, then they did them properly
Has been vibration free ever since.
Good luck.

Maybe one of the props is unbalanced. They are new and supposedly balanced before getting delivered to me.

Thanks for your help.
