ST170 Engine Number Location?

Hi Guys,

Can anyone tell me where to find the engine number on a Focus ST170 engine please (about 2002 vintage)?

Its the same as a zetec.

Just above the crank sensor, on the flat casting where you bolt the bell housing to.

If its like all other Zetecs (and it should be since it is one) it is stamped onto a lug on the exhaust side of the engine at the flywheel end at the side of the crank sensor. It usually gets rusted etc since its in the full blast of dirt, salt etc but a wire brush soon reveals the numbers.

A small resurrection of this thread - just to ask if a reg no can be obtained if I've got the engine code? This'll help if trying to buy standard engine parts from the dealers in the future..

Just find a car for sale (ebay) with the same engine and give them that reg.

You have no chance of getting that yellow off

Stuck like sh#t to a blanket. Its a heat proof 2k epoxy mastic that was applied on to a degreased and bead blasted block.


Ask Dave, when I stick something it stays stuck

Bugger. Oh well might have to consider the look of a yellow block in a red car!

Got a black cam cover already though

Anyway, ultimately it will get swapped for the st170 so might live with it for a season.

With hindsight, a normal 2l zetec with some cams and a little head fettling and bike carbs should be close to 200 bhp..

The reason I post this and no idea why the block made me think of nice shiny forged pistons and a turbo.... = an easy 350 bhp...

Can a year of manufacture be gotten from the code? I've got the engine already but I'm just wanting to get a bit more background if possible.

Yes ford engines have a code that indicates the year. Can't recall where you find it bit Google will know.

First two letters of the engine number show year and month of manufacture. You can look this up on Burton power website.
