currently have an R1 box on my 2L pinto which is fairly well tuned. Soon to move from 40s to 45s and even now Im not convinced the box is flowing
well. Plus its a bit tatty and Id like something a bit better looking.
Anyway, who would supply a nice ss or carbon silencer that will flow well up to 200bhp (might as well plan for the future).
Nothing loud would be suitable as its for trackdays also.
Thanks all
PS I tried my local powerflow to get one made up but they are pretty crappy and certainly not cheap.
Might be worth giving Mac#1 a call. Not sure on ultimate flow but they are quite large and quiet. What manifold have you got? This could be the
restrictive bit.
200bhp - wow, i dont know many millionaires. Do you have a secret formula Are you planning on a 2.4 Millington? Seriously though you will probs get
to 170 / 180 fairly easily but that last 20 or 30 horses is a bit of a steep curve for the 'ole wallet.

will give them a shout cheers.
200bhp wouldnt be from the pinto lol! transplant be the easiest way to see that.
M3 engine fit?
not sure what manifold is on it but its a 4 branch that goes into one then out the side of the chassis as one pipe.

well the manifold is going to be engine specifc where the silencer would stay no matter what I do.
unless its really crappy on the pinto then yes it would have to go.
The R1 can was quite restricive even on the R1. I did back to back tests on mine versus a straight through can and the diference was really noticable
in the top 1/3 of the rev range. It will apply equally to a 2.0 car engine that revs to 6000 as a 1.0 bike engine that revs to 12000.
Lots of people sell straight through cans. Fit the biggest one you can for the most noise reduction; lenght and diameter.
I was thinking of this one. its fairly cheap and is the right size inlet to match the mani.

If this info is useful I'm getting 260BHP through my system. 4>1 primaries to 2" secondary and a 5" x 18" re-packable silencer
(2" diameter tube inside). So the flow isn't a problem for me but the noise is. Currently well over 100bd and no hope of doing a
trackday.
So I've ordered a 6" x 21" silencer in hope of getting to a reasonable level.

M3 - ooooh nice. I assume you mean the S14 motor. I had ideas about this but dismissed it on the grounds of cost and availability but its a real nice engine. i hope you give it a go. Id love to read about such a transplant.

Will tell you all you need to know and much more.
Basically a silencer has to flow 2.2 cfm per bhp to be non restrictive. Dynomax are the only silencers I can find flow figures for.
John
pie in the sky mate, pie in the sky
Hi just a thought how about a split exhaust and two silencers any one tried this?
Jacko
RAW Engineering are ordering the silencer for me. They don't make them in house. Good quality for the money as my 5" has lasted for 4 years
with hard useage.
Something like £100+VAT for the 5" and £140+VAT for the 6"
As a comparison Simpsons wanted £250+VAT for a can of similar dimensions!
£100 sounds ok, got a pic of yours? Im shallow I know.
