It's called lengths of ERW and most metal merchants can supply!

Try http://www.talonmotorfabrication.co.uk/
They sell MX5 chassis and flat pack kits, but it's not clear from the shop if they'll sell a flat-pack of their MX5

The guy that runs it posts on here sometimes http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/members/Talon%20Motorsport/

ERW just means electric resistance welded, Its the process for making most hollow sections.

ERW is mild steel - usually 1.6mm wall thickness for Locost chassis use.

Arc welding probably not the easiest thing to do with thin section tube (not saying it can't be done).

Easier to Mig weld or if you are a perfectionist Tig weld.

We use a few different steel stockholders and none do small box sections or tubes thinner than 2.5mm in normal mild steel tube, all of the thinner ones come as ERW. I think ERW is a harder metal also, we also refer to it as bright rather than mild.

I have been a welder for twenty years and I'd still not tackle a chassis with a stick welder unless it was 3mm! and a Rangerover

are we talking about a flat pack kit for a mx5 based roadster? then talon is where you want to be looking
why not try the haynes roadster forum phil form talon is there regular and from what i have seen his work is of good quality and his prices are pritty fair.

ps tube is either seemless (eg made with no join) or erw (made from a flat section shaped and welded)
