Bike carbs working but no temperature

Thanks for the advice on my previous thread regarding bike carbs, they are now pretty much setup and after botching around with timing issues found it was the vacuum advance on the ESCII module messing things up. With that disconnected it is revving smoothly and a colortune looks like the mixture is surprisingly ok with not too much faffing around with carb set up.

Anyway, the only issue I have now is the temperature guage isn't reading any temperature and wondered if anyone had experience of this.

There is a temperature sender screwed into the block and I'm sure the wire to it is as it was before I took all the old carb off.

I'm wondering if the ESC II module needs something to be plugged in for the temp guage to work, or if I'm missing anything basic?

I know this is probably hard to answer without being able to nose around at the actual wiring, but wondering if anyone else has experience of removing the ESCII module and if it affected the temperature guage, or how to wire it in from scratch?

Cheers,
Rob.

Sender is above the dizzy in the block with a brown and white wire - sure this is the correct wire.

Should it go straight back to the gauge?

With the ignition on try earthing the sender wire, the gauge should read hot, if not then I would suspect the sender
