Is 150bhp zetec 2.0 black top enough?
Hello all......Can anyone tell me if a brand new build Westfield 150bhp zetec 2.0 litre is enough for track use. I have been using 1.6 MX5's for
track days and I can see that the 2.0 zetec would be quicker.
Yes I want to go fairly quickly but I don't want to scare myself to death like a BEC would.....
Cheers all

The most important things are that the car handles well and also stops well
Always worth spending the money on a good set up suspension wise before spending money on improving engine performance
Just curious, Why a Zetec and not a Duratec ?

It will be MUCH quicker than the 1.6 MX5
115v150bhp is about 40% more power. Car is probably 30-40% lighter. power/weight is heading towards double. Handling/stopping similar advantages.
150bhp is very conservative....

150bhp will be with the single throttle body - fit individual bodies and a decent mapper will get 175bhp at least. (My blacktop is 183)
Other consideration is weight. A “factory” spec new build Westy will come in at around 650kg due to screen, heater, seats etc. Build it yourself and
it can easily get down to 565kg (that’s what mine weighs with a full cage and fuel). Less weight = more speed on track and as mentioned above a good
setup is essential.
So 180bhp and 565kg will be way faster than a 1.6 mx5 for sure.

I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure

Depends what you are "competing" against. A well set up 7 with a 2.0 zetec will be faster than most things.

My car has a 1600 X Flow with 127 BHP it would leave my wife’s old 1600 MX5 standing on acceleration but probably not on top speed, however, it will
easily outhandle am MX . As said a decent suspension set up is every bit as important as extra power

FWIW, my single seater Formula Ford is fitted with a standard 2 litre Blacktop. All up weight 520kgs with me sat in it. The only modification to the
engine is the fitting of a set of R1 carbs, a Megajolt to set the petrol on fire and a dry sump system. The car made 156 on the rollers after all the
jet corrections. It is quick, and it was a cheap set up but you always need more power.....

150 bhp in a well sorted car with good brakes and good suspension set up will be plenty of fun too much horse power in a seven can detract from the
fun in my opinion getting to use every bhp is much more fun and less likely to start breaking things my last kitcar was a striker with a 1600 Toyota
4age with about 135/140 bhp was so much fun ringing its neck and embrassing lots of other higher horsepowered cars .

Im with Rusty on this, as my 7 has an old out of date 1660 xflow, that I built, never been dynod, so would be surprised if any more than 110 and
drives very well, 911 turbos etc might beet it, but mine cost 3k to build the whole car, not 50k +
Thats was probably spelt wrong, or had some grammer, that the "grammer police have to have a moan at
