just wondered if any one had some ideas on what methods were used
like cables, push rods and so on for the shift mechanism.

any pics please

i am going to use two started solenoids for the paddle shift but for now just want a stick for back up

Mine uses a standard lever attached to a rod, this goes via a 90 crank on the passenger footwell to convert the fore / aft to side to side required on the ST1100.
Works very nicely....

Cables are quite popular though- worth getting good quality ones though as you want to minimise any lash.
