Hello all,
Well, some may have seen my post I did on Sunday saying I was starting the build, I liked the comments back thank you, lol. Geordie Shore is funny
even though it doesn't make us Geordies look that good! Were are not all like that you know......
I have been pretty busy working on the chassis, took a week off work and I am relatively happy with what I have achieved in 4 days. It's a lot
harder than people give credit for building from scratch, my biggest surprise is how much the tubes move when you weld them! I basically thought
welding up the bottom rails first would help keep it all solid. I ended up screwing it down to the table.

Tomorrow I am hoping to get the sides done in the cabin compartment and maybe start the side bracing.
What do you reckon? Wanted to do this as a daily blog but have not had a chance.
Rob
Looking good. At this rate you'll be on the road by Christmas.
Looking good!
Keep the piccies coming
Looking good and it's not even Friday yet!
Sorry but I've spotted a huge mistake in your photos!
There isn't one of you sitting in the chassis going broom broom!
Friday:
It's just tacked up but is surprisingly stiff! Should be good when complete.
I have sat in it this afternoon, and feels nice, got no one around now to photograph me in it, sorry, lol.
Rob
Yes it is a long slog but the more you do the less there is left.

Hi,
No, it's a midi. Got a 2litre 5cylinder turbo going in the rear. I wanted a tunnel to keep the strength up, I know many midi's loose this,
but I'm trying to keep it looking as similar to a normal 7 as I can, that's why the back end looks small, but the motor does go in. Had it
in my wooden mock up ok.
Rob
The tunnel will house the water pipes for the front mounted radiator and other wires and pipes, try to keep it nice and neat.
It goes off to the passenger side to try and give a bit more foot space to the driver, the pedal box will have to be quite small.
Some more progress:
Rob
Hi all,
Update for this weekend. Fitted the scuttle frame and rear upper engine compartment rails. I have also started the full welding of the chassis,
it's really stiff now!

Nice one mate, i had a 330hp Fiat coupe (GT28RSR) back in 2006, wish i hadnt sold it
Looking good there, excuse me if I've missed something but are you building from plans? or, made it up for the midi??
Hi,
Its my own design, you may have seen my wooden mock up i made a few years ago which i have been developing over time. About a month ago i actually
started the real build.
It is a Midi yes.
Rob
Nice work so far....great job.
The gearshift will be fun....been there done that.
I will watch this build with interest.
Alan
Thanks, I'm fairly sure my next build will be a midi, and, I quite fancy a scratch build.
My first kit was a Striker many years ago and I'm keen to back to the small light ethic..
I'll be watching with interest.
Will you be in a position to market the chassis plans or maybe share them?
Thanks,
Steve
Hi Steve,
Thanks for the interest. I'll let you know what the chassis turns out like then I'll see if my plans could be available. If you want any
help with the design I'm more than happy to help. I'm not an expert, marine engineer is my actual trade! But I have been through the design
/ development stage and have built up a lot of knowledge with my car.
Cheers, Rob
Hi all, quick up date:
Will update more once I have got a bit more done. Been busy at work and with my MSc for past 8 weeks, so car has taken a back seat : (

Looks great!
Just a little update:
Once suspension is finished I'm thinking of sorting the roll bar out.
Rob
Hi Rob, nice to see it moving on.
I'm now seriously thinking of my next build, stumbling block atm is moving house, once that happens I will be ready to go.
I'm defo going down the inline rear engine layout using (probably) a V6 and trans from an Audi.
Hi Coozer,
Cheers, its slow progress and if you have seen my suspension posts you will see the development involved.
Pleased your thinking of doing a similar project, id be very interested in seeing what your ideas are.
Possibly if i was starting again with mine id look at making jigs for the suspension pick ups, its been a pain in the butt the way ive done mine but
thats life, learn from your mistakes.
I reckon if you do a midi with a transverse engine, you will have less trouble with the pick ups. Also as my engine cants forward, i think i have had
more issues than i might have using say a Zetec, but it will be worth it in the long run, its going to sound mental!
If you do look at my suspension posts, you will see my latest Camber adjusters, although im now on a revised mk 2 version, im pretty happy with the
result, cant wait to get the rear end finished then i can start on the front. With a bit of hard work and a few holidays i still have hopefully ill
have it on its wheels by the end of the summer. Well thats the plan!

I was thinking of keeping the front suspension the same as the locost book, and using the rear bulkhead off the book just cutting out the engine space
at the front. Also not needing a big tunnel narrow the chassis to about 850mm?
And, looking at Audis with the inline/FWD trans thats what I fancy. Going for the V6 as they are shorter than the 4 pot and will look mint with a
Holley and air filter on top1
Cheers

I am thinking of copying the Haynes wider front suspension geo. I like the tunnel. Its the rear I cant visualise. Ive seen the McPherson struts used
to good effect but heavy.
As for power I really cant make my mind up but I really am leaning to the Scooby but have been given a mondeo and I have the st170 in the garage.
Body style exo / lmp / 7 ?
keep up the good work
Tunnel progression.
