stupott901 - 6/4/10 at 01:24 PM

hi there

I hope some can help since finishing my mk 893 indyblade late last year this is the first i have managed to the car out for an decent run

the problem is when I accelerate its fine to begin with then higher up the revs the power dies of and seems to start backfire
and it seems to max out at 60 mph when the engine is cold it is worse.

has any one any ideas what the problem is?

thanks stu

Have the carbs been rejetted?

- Jim

Davg - 6/4/10 at 01:34 PM

Hi Stu

plugs, coils or leads breaking down or fuel starving potentially. Have you done owt with either?

cheers D

matt_gsxr - 6/4/10 at 01:38 PM

I guess fueling. I am with Jim on this one.

What are the spark plugs looking like.

Andy Bates is your man for these engines.

Matt

stupott901 - 6/4/10 at 01:48 PM

no the carbs have not been rejetted

the spark plugs and leads are new
but the previous plugs did get fouled up this is the 3rd set.

Is Andy bates a member on here or is it better to phone him at work ?

thanks for the help

jimgiblett - 6/4/10 at 01:56 PM

Andy frequents these pages now and then but probably best to give him a call. He will also be able to supply the jets.

AB Performance

I am guessing you are running foam filters and you are leaning out as the revs rise.

Yes have foam filter and yes it loses power higher up the revs

is it better to use origanal airbox?

thanks

jimgiblett - 6/4/10 at 02:09 PM

In my opinion yes, but this is a contested topic.

Most of the Fireblade engined RGB race cars run Airboxes (usually one of Andy B's special designs). An airbox will reduce induction roar and help keep you the right side of the noise police at track days. If you can fit one under the bonnet I would.

thanks jim for advice I wil give him a bell

I second that it needs an airbox at very least and/or jetting to suit whatever filter setup you have.
Classic symptoms

Lightning - 6/4/10 at 02:35 PM

Mine old car did that. Rejetted larger main jets. Kepping the air box if you can would be the better option

Has it been stood with fuel in the floats ? It could be gummed up jets and needles.

mad-butcher - 6/4/10 at 05:34 PM

I often ask myself would Honda etc have spent millions on designing an airbox if 30p worth of foam would work just as well. turn the airbox around point the 2 trumpets into the cold air stream of the bonnet vent.

Which fuel pump are you using?

stupott901 - 6/4/10 at 09:09 PM

hi steve
im using an solid state facet fuel pump with 1.5 - 2.5 psi

stu

Steve Hignett - 6/4/10 at 09:13 PM

I thought you might be - they could be fine, but is there anyone at all in your area that could lend you a Blade pump?

They are self regulating, so you don't need a fuel pres reg at all after the pump, just a filter.

It doesn't have to be a blade pump, it can be similar, like a carbed R1/ZX9 etc, but I always felt Blade for Blade is best...

stupott901 - 6/4/10 at 09:59 PM

hi steve

there is no one i know of with an blade pump

i have had a look on ebay but couldnt see any thing they seemed newer model pumps

stu

Steve Hignett - 6/4/10 at 10:07 PM

Just had a look myself , but nothing jumped out at me (a few R1 pump's but getting on for £50)...

Maybe put a specific Wanted post on here - someone's bound to have one. Failing that, call Andy Bates or Malc Yorkshire engines...

Any carbed bike engined fuel pump will do you. I think they are pretty much the same and made by Mitsubishi

Hi there guys

i have fitted the fireblade airbox and it is running alot better now at least i can get over 60mph now and the acceleration is better, still not perfect but its more drivable so i might take it to an local tuner with an rolling road and see what they say.

thanks for the help and advice
