What is the rev limiter set to on a blade engine? seen 12k today on my tacho round castle combe in 6th
Ive had this car 4 days and i cant stay away from it

I thought it was 11,750rpm but it may allow momentary higher peaks maybe?
I do know if you fit a CBR600 ECU it will allow you to rev higher, but the engine doesn't run as well!

Not sure you'd want to rev over that with a stock setup, it generally pulls best to just over 11 then there's nothing to be gained much
after that anyway.

do a search for speedcalc.xls it works out your top speed according to diff, wheel size, gear etc. Several folks have posted it up on here in the
past.
Requires Microsoft Excel.

browsing through the combinations it seems the blade engine is the best for top speed compared to other engines
and i was thinking of going bigger think i'll just tune the blade motor now

I run equivalent of 185/60 13" tyres and a 3.54 diff and mine will top out at just under 125mph
Unless you've got one like mine which hits the limiter at 14,000!!!

I haven't changed anything, bought the engine private with ecu and loom...took off the bike while I was there, bought cbr600 clocks in error at a
autojumble (14,000 redline) and fitted them.....engine hits limiter at 14,000 and has been for 4500miles! (running 3.92 diff)

It does seem to pull all the way to the limiter too.

In my opinion Id say its either a tuned engine, there is something in the clocks to make them over-read when connected to a blade (the frequency of
ECU trigger pulses for the tacho possibly?), or you've got a CBR600 ECU as well because a stock blade wouldnt pull to the limiter in 6th at 14k.
Even with a 3.92 that would be nearly 140mph, and would take for ever to get there, above 110-115mph in a blade BEC the acceleration is relatively
slow going and the power is already tailing off over 11k so by 14k it would be dying (if not throwing a rod or two!)

Well it definitley doesn't do 140!! I was thinking that there may be some electrickery which was making 11,750 look like 14,500 on the 600 clocks
(the amount of the dial swept to get 14,500 and 11,750 is the same), it does about 115mph on the limiter. As I said I've done about 4,500 miles
like this and the engine hasn't gone bang so I can only assume I'm not over revving it!
Anyone got some early BLADE clocks going?? preferably with smashed speedo coz I don't need it

Topping out at 115 sounds about right for a 3.92 diff, by playing around with the ratios spreadsheet it would seem you'd need a 4.44 diff in
there to top out at 115 if it was revving to 14k
Therefore my guess is that its the ECU that controls the tacho and it isnt done directly off the coil triggers like an aftermarket tacho does. I guess
this way Honda can make the same tacho internals for lots of different bikes and then just tweak the output of the ECU and put different clock faces
on to tell the gauges what to read.
