Chassis number and scrapping the donor
tims31 - 1/9/11 at 01:30 PM

Ok, a little help required before my donor goes to the big scrap yard in the sky.
I have taken the VIN plate off the slam panel (Sierra Saph) but I know there is at least one other place on the car where the chassis number is stamped but I’ve looked in the usual place and can’t seem to find it, anyone have an idea where it is located please?

Also, after reading the comments about scrapping off the donor and keeping the V5 docs to obtain an age related plate what is the best way of achieving this? Can it be disposed of through a scrappy or can it only be done by selling as scrap metal?

I did speak to DVLA on the phone and they said send in the V5 doc with a covering letter stating that it was going to be used as donor and that would be ok but they didn’t seem too sure.

Any help gratefully received....

I think the chassis number is on the floor under the carpet next to the drivers door

poss under a plastic cover

I can tell you of a good scrapie that will pick it up or where you can weight it in if needed

Keep the log book - theres no need to send it to DVLA - just remember to have it in your name , and keep the SORN up to date while building .
As far as I know , the shell can just be scrapped - since it has no identity that should be easy enough .

Thanks for all that,

Need to have a hunt around to find all the chassis numbers now.

big_Wassa: - will speak to you tonight about the srappy when I drop your stuff off.

When I spoke to DVLA they said just write a letter and that would cover it but would much rather keep the V5 and just SORN every year, safer that way to get an age related plate

I sorn'd mine and cut the car up into very small pieces and took it to the metal man.

As far as the DVLA is concerned, its off the road. I am not sure if i will be able to use its identity to re-register the locost - from what i have read, but if i can't, i will just send the V5 back saying its now scrapped.

I stripped mine of all parts and sent it down the scappy and weighed it in (£150 filled with crap charrr chinnggg.....) Didnt even think to take the plates or chassis numbers off.

Sadly i didnt get the logbook when i purchased the car (he couldnt find it, seemed genuine enough though), i only applied for it the other day but scapped the cars months ago. Ill let you know what happens.

The chassis number is stamped on the floor just down the side of the drivers seat next to the door. I cut mine out, took the vin plate off and kept it sorn. I handed it in when I registered and visibly witness the young lass tear it up and put it in the bin

Checking on the dvla vehicle check it still shows as liable!!
