I voted Acer purely as I've used both support services and find the acer support better.

I must admit Richard I like that one as well but at the moment I'm so far behind knowing which processor etc etc is the most current/usefull/best that this is why i stuck the post up.

Toshiba

I wouldnt buy any of them, and not from PC world either. Their after sales support is abismal.

You could build one for less. And its really simple to do.

Have a look on dabs.com at their systems.

i got my dad one of those acers. if you look in staples i think they do the same one a little bit cheaper.

my dad is very happy with his. its got dvi output memory card readers loads of usb's etc. it is also very very quiet and runs nice and quick on windows 7.

iscmatt - 2/1/10 at 02:20 PM

another reccomendation for dabs.com here, and also pixmania.com is very good

Dabs
Pixmania

omega 24 v6 - 2/1/10 at 02:32 PM

poll changed from
5 for acer and
1 for hp

to
4 for acer and
2 for Hp

how did that happen can you change your vote??

Had a look on dabs and pixmania but not seeing much for the same money really.

this ones got windows 7 though

Maybe have a look at Tescos and Asda for the Acer, wouldn't get too hung up about the processor or hard disk size but double the amount of ram any manufacturer installs as standard, so factor that in from www.crucial.com/uk, it dead easy to fit so don't worry about that either.

I've voted for the Acer as their support/backup service has been brilliant on several machines in our family.
Other than that I would point out you can buy Acer direct thro' laptops direct (they sell desktops too) or ebuyer.com who are sometimes even cheaper.
I would not buy from fleece me world unless forced to!

omega 24 v6 - 2/1/10 at 02:45 PM

£100 dearer at laptops direct for the acer.

Cheaper and higher spec at ebuyer but no monitor

Looks like even although it is PC world then it's quite a good deal/cheap price.

Nothing wrong with vista, just those machines arent well enough specced to run it properly.

Try and find a system with windows 7 on if you can.

Project7 - 2/1/10 at 03:48 PM

Of those 3 I would pick the HP.

However have a look at Aldi, on 7/01/10 they are doing a Medion Akoya X7330D which looks to have a good spec for the price (£350).

couch22k - 2/1/10 at 06:15 PM

Acer everytime.

Jasper - 3/1/10 at 10:47 AM

I would second the 'Build One' vote.

I'm not a techie as you gather from my posts, got all the parts and took advise from scan.co.uk who were really helpful. It all went together really easily, that was 3 years ago, and now I've upgraded most of the parts as I want to, just like a car. And I've never had to get a techie in to sort out anything - YET!!

All the help I needed came from guys on here. Got a much better spec machine for the price, and now I've got more of an idea of how to fix things when they go wrong.

RichardK - 5/1/10 at 05:35 PM

These are normally loss leaders, so wouldn't dismiss them either.

Aldi Linky

ebuyer.com

we spend poo loads there each month and no probs.

If you can afford it get a dell. Decent warrenty and good build quality.

Acer are pretty good tho... dont buy it from bloody PC world.

wouldnt bother building your own system, doesnt work out any cheaper any more.

oh and ffs dont get vista! go for XP or 7, if you do end up with vista go for the free upgrade from MS to 7.

cheers
