Rear Arch Protector Dims
Slater - 9/1/09 at 01:56 PM

Hello, I am currently offshore Nigeria on board the Scarabeo-3, a semi-sub drilling rig.

I have spotted a nice bit of stainless sheet on the rig. I'd like to cut out and make some rear arch protectors, but I don't have any dimensions with me.

Can anyone help me out and let me know what the protector dimensions are to suit the MAC#1 rear arches please, or even draw a template and scan in so I can print off on an A4 sheet/template.

Since arriving I have allready made/stamped a chassis plate, also "obtained" some ali section for a bonnet vent idea.

Thanks
Keith
Right, that's me off the get my daily excercise- 45 min walking in big circles round the helideck with my ipod.

Hope you are catching some sun while doing your exercise.

Cant remember the size, however do recommend making them as big as you can. Full width, starting right at the bottom and going quite high. I fitted a std set of abs plastic ones and the arches got peppered right around them. Some front mud flaps are a good idea. Stop a lot of the stones etc and when raining hard cut down the water hitting your elbow which eventually collects in seat base (after taking a trip around your crotch area) and making your derrier damp.

Yes it's sunny and warm (30-35 C) here.

Can someone please measure the width/height of the front of the rear arch so I can chop up this bit of stainless to the right size and smuggle it back to the UK. I can trim it to the right shape once I get back home.

My other alternative is to ask the wife to go into the garage with a tape measure, but you will know how enthusiastic she is about kit cars from her commentary in my first drive video clips!

Thanks
Keith.

I could measure the ones fitted to my MNR which may be close if that helps ?

Yes please Neil, I think I will make the protectors as big as possible, following advice from Darren above. So can you measure the flat width of your arch at the front and then the height from bottom to where the protector might end. I will cut them on the big side anyway and trim them at home.
Thanks
Keith.

My protectors would approx 240mm x 450mm flat at their widest dimesions.

Thanks Neil for the dimensions and advice from BigRich and Darren. I got the rig welder to cut them out for me. I think it was the door for an industrial washing machine. I gave him 2 mars bars and he was delighted.

The rig have also just skipped a 15ft long galley worktop and cupboards. All made from shiney stainless. Enough to panel an entire car!
Oh well, I will bring home my 2 sheets in my case.
