After much fettling (and posts) I've got the mac exactly as I want it. Drives amazing and although weathers been pretty pants managed to get out
during the week and cover about 100 or so miles
No drama's until the very end when I noticed the car suddenly started shaking a little, within about 2 miles it became pretty bad so I pulled
over and checked all the obvious, wheels, suspension etc with nothing wrong.
I drove back home (about 4 miles away) as gently as poss keeping it below 30 or so and right through the back to the front. It felt like it was coming
from the centre so checked diff bolts, etc etc and then saw this - shouldve been the first place I checked!
Two bolts were left...just! Replaced all new with nylon nuts & loctite. will test when weathers clear. reckon that might have been quite some
damage if it came right off! - Anyone else had a similar event?
Since that Ive been over just about every nut I can get to just to be safe and used tippex (rec. from someone on here) in case I see movement
Those nuts look like they have been used before, should always use new nylocks on things like props. could you imagine what would have happen if all
the bolt would have come out.... even at 30 MPH...

Had the same with a rear drive shaft. Lots of stange clunking noise on take up and when I got home found 1bolt missing and the other 4 not far
behind.

Unfortunately its a more common failure than you'd think. Most people tend to find out the nuts have come loose when they stop to investigate
the vibration!
As far as I know there have only been a few occasions when they have failed catastrophically. But when they have gone it isn't pretty.

Mines in pieces at the mo but I'm just going to give it a look over anyhow, just in case the rumbling noise that i thought was the diff,
wasn't.
Good to see you got on top of the problems though.
I use a red touch up pen on all critical bolts.
Saves mincing when doing a nut and bolt check and believe me these cars need regular checking.
You were lucky, always nice to learn a lesson when you've done no damage

i once lost a prop on the m6 doing 70(ahm.)coming back from newark.

Same happened to me but mine was been held by the skin of its teeth by 1 bolt!
No damage apart from a cut water pipe where the diff had been flailing about due to only having one bolt attached.
All sorted now and checked regulary to save any further mis-haps!
All good fun!
