Who insures your MAC#1??

richard staniforth - 21/10/05 at 09:50 AM

Sureterm
£212
£10K guaranteed value.
3K mileage

I played them off with some others like (I think) Adrian flux. which saved me about £30-40.

jos - 21/10/05 at 09:50 AM

Ive got the names of the following insurance companies so far

Footman James
MSM
Eggar Lawson
Adrian Flux
HIC
Graham Sykes
Sureterm
Tesco

I use MSM for the TVR. £600 quid a year give or take.

I was going to use them when I start building, unless someone else is much cheaper, because I've been happy with the service so far.

hows the car running now must be nearly done if you are sorting insurance

jos - 23/10/05 at 08:11 PM

Well you heard about my probs over the weekend but that should get sorted this week. It was running a little fast but I will leave that for someone with specialist equipment to tweak further. Theres still plenty of little things to do but Ive sent off for SVA none the less. Hopefully will hear nthis week. Fingers crossed....

Ive just been getting some quotes. 34yr old, no accidents etc etc, clean licence, full ncb, live in the sticks. Car garaged.

Footman James - £10K value, 6k miles per year = £410!!!!!!! £263 with 4.5K mile limit.

Sureterm - Agreed value, 5k miles, £100 excess = £195 (do monthly direct debit for extra £73)

Osbournes - not agreed value, 5k miles, £200 excess = £170 (do 3 installments for extra £20). Parts only cover £147.

Adrian Flux - £271!!!!

I might try playing around with ltd miles later to get better quotes. Dont sound too bad so far. How many miles do most people do in a year - i guess 3,000 can be quite optimistic for fair weather second car use only.

jos - 28/10/05 at 10:39 AM

Sureterm have just quoted £140 ish

Hall and Clarke £170

Competition Car Insurance £ 470

Bit of a difference eh

DarrenW - 28/10/05 at 02:20 PM

How did you get the 140 quote from Sureterm? ie what basis ref miles, value, named drivers etc

Mine at £195 was based on me being old, living in the sticks, 5000 miles, £10k agreed value, £100 excess. Im favouring sureterm so far but would like to get the quote down a touch more. maybe 5000 miles per year is a touch too high.

jos - 28/10/05 at 02:25 PM

Mine was based on 27 year old male 3000 miles 2.0 pinto second car no claims no convistions etc £100 excess etc etc

Your quote is nearly double the miles on mine so mine by rights should be half the cost but it dont always work like that

DarrenW - 28/10/05 at 02:37 PM

Ive just got it down to £163 at 3,000 miles per year. Maybe being an old duffer is going against me!

Jos - youve had a fantastic price there, id grab that one. Ive also heard very good comments ref there attitude towards insuring on chassis number etc. You get 2 weeks to register. After that the put the policy on hold and charge 7 or 8 quid paperwork but when you restart it is 12 months from the new date, not the original one so basically you get 2 weeks cover for 7 quid ish. Im sure Guiness could elaborate as hes just gone thro it.

jos - 28/10/05 at 02:46 PM

Ive just noticed youre now a "posting freek"

Oooooh get you !!!!!
