Ive just got a text from Darren confirming that he's just passed his SVA

WELL DONE

The bad news is that the engine has to come out as he needs to replace a core plug (?????) but he completed the test before it let go.

I'm sure he'll be along later to divulge all.

Thanks All. Interesting Day.

Last Monday drove there and back with no problems. Yesterday Wife decided she fancied a drive up with me - drove all way there no problems at all. Very breezy with no screen and bloody freezing but car performed very well indeed. Gosforth is 45miles each way.
Got to the test. Guy checked all retest areas. He picked up that the new handbrake cable connections (u shaped clip thingy, one end secures to T-bar with clevis and split pin, other end has hole and slot to take the cable) were a bit on the weak side. The slot that the cable goes thro' was opening up. My heart sank. However after some discussion he let me nip them up with mol;e grips then go round to caravan accessory shop next door to buy some jubilee clips to effect a temp repair and it then passed.
The bad news happened whilst checking the handbrake on the rollers. Rear core plug (im assuming here as i havent had a good look yet) has failed and dumped a load of rusty dirty water into his rollers! They must be well prepared for this tho as all spills were cleaned before i could get car out. Embarassed - yes incredibly so! Luckily it didnt compromise my test pass.

In summary yesterday i was elated and well hacked off at the same time. Only made worse by finding out RAC wouldnt rescue me and i had to pay for recovery.

Keep an eye open for my next question in engine section - quick way to fix core plugs.

nice one darren shame about the water leak though, does sound like the rear core plug behind the flywheel. give yourself a big pat on the back then get your overalls on and start mending.
keep us posted on your findings

Registration process now completed. Got the paperwork this morning so can get plates made now.

Core plug popping was bad enough, having to fix it is nightmare now im fully legal but just to make it all worse still i have Chickenpox and cant even get out to garage to do the work.

Boy have i had serious sense of humour failure!!!!

jos - 17/12/05 at 03:53 PM

Its all the stress- are you making brum brum noises gazing vaguely towards the garage
