Stoneleigh owners area
DarrenW - 2/5/06 at 10:46 AM

i was expecting a few more Mac1is in the owners area. I parked next to Nick - i now wish id spent more time polishing and prepping. I was going to make it more presentable but after the trials and tribulations of the journey id had a serious sense of humour failure!

Did anyone get any pics?

My teething problems (so you can check yours):
1. Dizzy cap carbon brush ware away completely after only 1,000 miles. Got a new one but missed the convoy (which was going to be my highlight!).
2. Excess underbonnet temps in the entrance queue - suffered fual vaporisation. Caused by air filter being hard up underneath bonnet. I dont want to cut hols till i fit bike carbs although i may have to consider how to make some nice looking vents that wont look daft later (might cut some small round holes and fit mesh behind).
3. Gearbox p155ing oil out. Dont know where from yet. Will try sealing up most likely areas tonight. i dont suppose anyone has experienced oil from the speedo drive hole have they?

Isnt it typical that the bits that i havent touched are failing me. Everything that i have assembled or engineered has been A1.

I didnt expect the show to be so big. I didnt have long enough to look around and was concerned about the car. Ive only been to Newark and Harrogate before which are by comparison not a patch on Stoneleigh.

Apologies to all those i should have chatted to. Hope you understand.

Really bad luck DarrenW... was looking forward to meeting you - still... the rest of the lads you were travelling with appeared to have a good time. When we met at Woodall Services people were stopping to have pictures taken with the cars! Amazing!!! Paul Fisher even had a little girl sat in the car with her Mum and Dad taking pictures... madness I tell you!!!

It was a great day - biggest I've seen, with a good turnout of MK's especially!!

I've ust uploaded some footage of the trip down and a few pic's my lad took!

I think i was stood next to you at one point Steve - were you the guy with the long hair???. My attention was diverted to some bloke wearing a kawasaki jacket with his legs out

I was liking the car. Some very nice touches. Excellent build quality. Might have to improve mine over next winter now!

Sorry to all for being a bit ignorant and incognito - i was a bit distracted after the teething problems. At least i made it there and back with no rescue being needed - i guess that is a major achievement in itself (first serious run out).

HAHA! No - I neither have long hair (I WISH!) or my legs out! If you look at the latest video of the convoy down - that is me driving the tin top from where the video was shot. I have no recollection of a bloke with his legs out... I didn't realise you had made it, sorry I missed you m8!

Darren,
I got some pics of the three cars, Yours Robs & Mine, will post them when uploaded them.
I admire you for driving all that way i only did 60 miles .At 14mpg dont want to go much further ( LOL)
At least your floor wont rot with the oil leak.
Cheers

Youre not wrong there Nick ref rust. At the end of the day i had to go to the toilet block and get a roll of that blue paper. Ive nearly used half a roll cleaning up tonight - panel wipe proved to be useful. No need to admire me - i must have a screw loose!!!! Fillings are defo loose now. Ive spoke to a few people who wouldnt drive so far.

Sorry for being a bit unfriendly at the show. i get a bit touchy when my baby spits its dummy out!!!! I later realised that it was an incredibly successful trip - 400 mle round trip after only 4 months of local runs. Not bad really.

Your car was really well presented Nick. Next time i will have to make an effort on presentation. I polished it up a week before but after such a long drive it looked a bit dull. Next time i promise it will be better. Im really hoping to convinc the wife that a Sat night stop over at Newark is essential
