When i first started to run my car i reported i wasnt happy with power etc. I havent done much with it apart from getting practice at tweaking timing.
Engine still not set up properly but managed to record 5.8 secs yesterday - Well happy and that is with the 38DGAS. Hopefully it will be a touch
better when i get round to putting the bike carbs and megajolt on.
For some strange reason the car has seemed to get healthier after some tame thrashing - maybe its ran itself back in after standing for 2 years +.
Who says the Pinto's are a disability????? its almost as fast as my old M3 now off the line - cant say fairer than that.
Nice time!
Who needs a bloody bike engine.
Long live the pinto
Cool

from what i've heard bike carbs make a big difference, so you should be able to shave loads of that, especially if you can find a steeper hill
Chris
Thanks Chris - one day i will get my revenge
I should explain that the test road isnt perfectly flat, 50% is very slightly down and 50% equally very slightly up. the surface isnt exactly highly
grippy either. It does serve as a good comparitor though, earlier in the year my best was 6.2 so does show some improvement.
Under scientific test conditions i dont know what the result would be but i do believe around 6 secs to be very possible.
Like everything performance related no results are truly scientific due to the variables involved. I recall my M3 had a book speed of 5.2 on Optimax,
5.5 on reg unleaded. As i didnt have timing gear i dont know what i was able to achieve so there is every possibility that my ZR is as quick off the
line. Im happy with that as that was my primary goal when deciding to build a specialist self built sports replica.
Your speedo was calibrated where??? You do realise typical speedo settings are 10% up don't you? It was windy too wasn't it?

ooooh talk about putting a man down.....
DD2 was calibrated at SVA to be within 1mph at 70.
Road conditions and launch technique were probs biggest improvements. As i say test is far from scientific but shows potential. There was some wind
but tbh headwind this time. i actually set dash to record 0-62 as well which compares better to M3 book times.
I have to drop the car into third to get to 62, i guess i could shave some time off if ratios were adjusted to negate the gear change - swings and
roundabouts though and well discussed elsewhere so i doubt ill do that. the discussion that hasnt been brought up is why do manufacturers record 0-62.
I was convinced it was to compare with 100kph times by European manufacturers but discussion with car plant engineers shows this to be not strictly
true - although car sales guys and marketing bods may have mythed the true reasons.
For a basic engine and basic diy set up you can imagine im quite happy at the mo. anything under 6.5secs is rapid in anyones book. And to pre-emp the
next question - No i will never be happy and yes will no doubt do further mods at some point. 16V hasnt been ruled out yet. All a question of time,
opportunity and money.
Stick a Zetec or Duratec in now. You have the megajolt and bike carbs that can be transferred over!
Easy 200bhp
Steve
Dont do it - pintos rock !!!!!
LONG LIVE THE PINTO
Pinto/Zetec all the same Both fords and leak oil
Duratec is a strange Mazda beast! - It's quick tho ;-)
Hey Daz - I'm gonna claim it was those spark plug leads I sent ya - they added 30 horse power (Max Power Claim!!! LOL)
Darren,
I haven't masured but I don't think I am getting any better than that with Megajolt and bike carbs.
Have you had your head flowed as this is the only bit I still have on my list of things to do. I have an injection head fitted but it's standard.
Until the winter.
Head is self ported by moi. I followed the advice in Des Hammills book. I also had 40 thou skimmed when the guides were redone. I thenfitted FR32 cam
with new but std springs and followers. I paid a lot of attention to getting each port the same by touch but have no idea of flow rates. I started
with injection head which gives a good starting point. Inlet manifold was matched to head port - i had to take a lot of material off the manifold.
On a perfectly level road under scientific conditions may give a different time (my technique is far from consistent) but as a comparitor (i use the
same road each time) it shows a good result. Certainly feels in the low 6's.
Murray - unfortunately your leads didnt give the improvement - i havent fitted them yet!!! Well reminded tho.......
New carbs and megajolt will no doubt be winter project now.
I need to get a copy of Des Hammils book.
Does this refer to the injection head as I had Vizards book but this was long before the injection head was developed.
I have seen a set of bigger valves on eBay for £80.00 so may get these and rework the head through the winter.
I keep toying with sorting the head or swapping for a Zetec.
