What size steering wheel and where from?
Iaing - 29/11/11 at 02:56 PM

Hey folks, fitting a quick rack to my car and plan to change the steering wheel too.

What size should I go for? Think the one I have is 300mm and it does feel a tad on the large side. What do caterhams etc use?

Cheers

Steering wheels are always a personal choice.

I like a larger diameter, but need a flat bottom with it.

my preference is one of these

clicky wicky

Just love the way companies are building the centralised steering position marker into their product, I was always brought up on the theory you marked it yourself to compensate for any errors in the steering

I like it as small as I can get it! 240-260mm.

I like to fight the car!

I have one of those 285mm RMD ones as above. Its perfect for me. Don't forget you need the boss to go with it which is the same price as the steering wheel. So that will set you back £100.

I have a Ford Boss (Sierra Hexagonal fit) new and never been used and still in the box that I would take £30 plus P&P for if you go that route and have that steering column.

Cheers............ Neil

I had a smallish wheel but I had to change it when I fitted the quick rack as the steering was too heavy!

Yep i also have a tiny one 260mm or 280mm... Admittedly with the quick rack its heavy at parking speeds but once your out and about its fantastic

Surely it full fills no purpose at all, I have never felt the need to check my steering wheel to see if im going in the right direction.

Yeah im thinking of getting a 260 or 280 for that reason. A friend of mine had a Catherham superlight R with a tiny wheel but not sure what the size was.

Would like to see a pic of yours if you've got one?
