Ripped Off...
scootz - 16/3/10 at 06:48 PM

Saw a set of Alley Cat wheels for sale on PH... turns out the vendor lives in the next village.

Went round and saw them this morning... decent nick, but poor paint. Bought them and took them straight to the powdercoater.

Got a call from the powdercoater a couple of hours later to say they were disintegrating during sand-blasting... turns out they were half metal and half filler!

Seller wont answer my phone calls, but he has more or less said "tough" during our (limited) text dialogue!!!

kevmcdo - 16/3/10 at 06:51 PM

At least you know exactly where he stays..........

RichardK - 16/3/10 at 06:54 PM

Take them back to him and have a quiet word...

philw - 16/3/10 at 06:55 PM

I'd throw one through his window.

Confused but excited. - 16/3/10 at 06:55 PM

Don't txt him, use braille.
On his head.
He can read the lumps when he regains conciousness.

cd.thomson - 16/3/10 at 06:58 PM

dont you have any H&K MP5Ns stashed away scott

MakeEverything - 16/3/10 at 06:58 PM

Go in heavy when you know hes in. Either that or throw one through his windscreen, rear screen, front room window and the sharpest one at the front door - hard.

That cheered me up!

scootz - 16/3/10 at 07:02 PM

£100 down...

Litemoth - 16/3/10 at 07:07 PM

"Caveat emptor" is the rule on this one I fear (principle that the buyer is responsible for checking the quality and suitability of goods before purchase)

Unless you can prove he knowingly misled you maybe

Hands up those of you who've never been stung then......

Litemoth - 16/3/10 at 07:08 PM

....... on the subject of being stung...loads of dodgy pound coins around I've noticed

[Edited on 16/3/10 by Litemoth]

andyharding - 16/3/10 at 07:08 PM

To be fair the seller might not have known they were plastic if it wasn't him that bodged them... Caveat emptor

Lets pretend he did know and we can all get mad at him

scootz - 16/3/10 at 07:15 PM

Sure... I appreciate all that, but in the circumstances I would have no hesitation in refunding the buyer.

Disappointing!

Johneturbo - 16/3/10 at 07:21 PM

Going by his response i'd say he did know

I agree...Most of us couldn't face selling something duff (and maybe dangerous) like that.

hicost blade - 16/3/10 at 07:30 PM

W**ker, Does he know where you live? if not, get some mates together and go knock on his door!!!

Cousin Cleotis - 16/3/10 at 07:30 PM

If you had 5 fake twenty pound notes would you have paid for the wheels, just because someone had given them to you? If the answer is yes then you cant take the moral high ground, if the answer is no you couldnt do that to a fellow human being, then set the wheels on fire and throw them through his living room window.

Just a thought.

Paul

boggle - 16/3/10 at 07:37 PM

you could just go and give him the wheels back along with the blasters bill...

if he doesnt refund then knock on his door early one eve, smash him in the face with a 2x4, leave a note on his unconcious body saying ' i have left you negative feedback'...

go home and wait for the police to turn up and get 3 years inside.....if your lucky you will be out after a year and a half....

not that im speaking from experience or anything.....

NS Dev - 16/3/10 at 07:39 PM

Knowing from another chap on here that has bought stuff from Scootz, this really winds me up.

I've never met him but have it on good authority that he's a truly decent chap.

I would go and see the seller, show him the wheels and ask him what he thinks!

Tell him he can keep the wheels, any refund is up to him but they're no use to you

scootz - 16/3/10 at 07:43 PM

Cheers!

He knows they'll be left on his doorstep tomorrow morning as they're bugger all use to me and I don't want to be stuck with them!

I'll knock at the door and have a word, but he's already said he won't answer! I'll bring someone with me to sit in the car justin case he alleges anything!

That's all good but as the flaming cast lump is heading towards his bay window, you'll hear the baby that's just inside that window start to cry .......

Put it down to experience and be glad you're not burdened with being the type of scum that would sell dodgy wheels.

That's fair enough I recon.....get the blasters to put in writing what they found and invoice him for the works done with a copy of their findings.

Daddylonglegs - 16/3/10 at 08:18 PM

Tell him he can have the wheels back, and let him know you will be giving him the bill for the blasting and expect a refund on the wheels. Also make sure to tell him that you are going to see your solicitor this week to discuss small claims action

It'll either work or it won't, can't lose much more.

02GF74 - 16/3/10 at 08:59 PM

read up on here to see where you stand.

http://www.consumerdirect.gov.uk/

Dangle_kt - 16/3/10 at 09:38 PM

I'd go have a word, no need to threaten anything - cos to be honest I'm sure £100 isn't worth that to you.

Personally I'd drop the wheels off one at a time, maybe once every...month? but not tell him that

That way he will get rid of one, then another will arrive and make him have to do another trip and try and barter with the local dump!

Small justice, but better than pretending you will murder him like some internet hero would.

Wheels244 - 16/3/10 at 10:26 PM

Smash them with a sledge hammergrinder and post the bits through his letter box over a VERY long period of time.

or

Burst him

Whichever

iank - 16/3/10 at 10:32 PM

If you do leave them make sure they can't be re-bodged and sold on to another victim.

scootz - 16/3/10 at 10:42 PM

Good point Iain... and well made!

Thanks for the input all... I've had a few giggles at your replies which have cheered me up a bit!

hillbillyracer - 16/3/10 at 11:17 PM

I'd not be giving them back at all if I could help it, even less so without a full refund. These are alloy wheels right? I dont know what alloy scrap is making at the moment but it's better in your pocket than his!

mangogrooveworkshop - 16/3/10 at 11:17 PM

This boy named MIKEY has been toting them on scotish vag forum

michael stewart

Chris saw the pic and was right on to the posting on scottish vag

Badger_McLetcher - 16/3/10 at 11:38 PM

Visit him in the middle of the night and nick the wheels off his car, leaving it standing on the ones you just bought
BTW what are those wheels above? Is there a special name for that pattern?

scootz - 17/3/10 at 08:01 AM

Yep... that's them!

They are Alley Cats.

MikeR - 17/3/10 at 09:20 AM

i think you should take pictures, get the bill from the blasters, get something in writing from them and go back to him.

Explain that this really isn't fair old chap. Ask him to refund the cost of the wheels + blasting. when he says no, offer to compromise on the cost of the wheels. When he says no, tell him that you're about to go home to the forum and explain what a poo he is & see what he says.

When you go to the forum, only state facts. no opinions. leave it a week. Hopefully he'll have had lots of grief. go back and see if he'll give you your money back. make a note of ALL conversations including your initial texts.

If none of that works - then weigh up how much this means to you as going legal is going to cost.

(as you have his address and phone number - didn't he want double glazing, free trial of hemeroid cream, a stannah stair lift etc)

Liam - 17/3/10 at 09:59 AM

Out of interest, you got a picture of how bad the damage/bodging is?

as above....just how bad are they??

ive done wheel refurb and you can repair a chunk missing....if the worst comes to the worse, send down the knackered ones and i will repair them properly F.O.C...

scootz - 17/3/10 at 12:37 PM

Cheers Boggle! Thanks for the offer - appreciate it!!

I spoke to Mark (our local powdercoater) and he has a buddy who's a whizz at Mag repairs, so he's going to take a look at 'em and decide if they are an economically viable repair

zilspeed - 17/3/10 at 06:37 PM
