recently got given a beretta 682 by an old friend who considered himself a liability these days.

My P7 M13 BB gun is great for the dog that my neighbour just lets out of the front door so it can run round all our front gardens p!ssing and sh!tting everywhere!

Works well on the traffic warden too!

Shotguns and pistol as a kid, GPMG, SMG, 9mm Browning, 7.62 SLR (FN FAL), 5.56 SA80 IW and LSW int' Army. Could drop a head and shoulders target at 600M with iron sights SLR at my peak. Did Bisley three years running. Also shot a possible on the APWT (Colonel watching said if we had a war he wanted to stand next to me! ).

blimey, loads more response than I had expected

I shoot smallbore semi auto rifle .22, full bore rifle .303, .357 and .44 and long barrel pistol (.22 semi auto)

main shooting is gallery rifle at bisley.

starting out soon in practical shotgun

Have to say that my heart's no longer in shooting since I left the firearms unit... I did pest control on my in-laws farm for a couple of years (rabbits, pigeons, deer), but to be perfectly honest, I'd rather watch them going about their animally business than stalk them down and shoot them!

Definitely going soft in my old age, but I think I'm a better person for it!

Only clays for me these days, Winchester Supergrade, had it 20 years plus.

Sold quite a few air guns (inc. a Rapid 7 and a .25 HW 80) to finish the mac#1.

Clays are getting a bit expensive these days, especially when your on your own at an electronic skeet layout

Usual 7.62 amd 9mm military kit back in the day, when I was in my unit shooting team. Plus 84mm 'Charley G'. Now that's my idea of a hand gun.
.357, .44 and .45 and 12 bore socially, plus a bit of .22 rifle. Had an old BSA International, that shot well though, it would still keyhole with a rest.
Now thinking about pistol again. You can still shoot pistol as long as it has a 12" barrel.
I see Mr. Thomson is also a fan of the Atchison assault shotgun.

Represented the RN at Bisley. 4.5" Mk6 & Mk8, Phallanx, Goalkeeper, 20mm Oerlikon, 30mm Bofor, Lots of different missile system...SLR, SA80, AK-47, AR-15 various pistols, sub-machine guns, mini gun, Barratt, GMPG & LMG etc etc and a short time as an armourer before going back to my main job which was Sonar & Radar system.

i used to train at the gym with a guy that had done time for armed robbery and the guy that owned the gym had been shot in the leg by an IRA sniper ...... i had an air rifle as a kid

A few 12 bores in me time.. rabbits and pigeons, match boxes on fence posts etc....

A 8 shot pump action thing that was very arny before Ryan went nuts. Great for one handed off the hip action.. probably why they were banned!

A Baikal side by side that was vicious! Cut fingers, on your arse etc..

And a beautiful old single barrel goose gun where the name escapes me...

Considering something else now to stop them damn pigeons eating me cabbages!

Can I get .22 without a licence still??

Anyone seen the film Shooter?

It's meant to be relatively realistic... is it? By which I mean the shooting side of it is meant to be based in some for of factual reality.

The rest of it is of course Hollywood-ised bunkum but I love it none the same!

ETA: Alternatively have anyone read Sniper One? Written by a sniper with the British Army who was out in Iraq during the invasion and beyond. Excellent book!

Hi James, I've watched the film twice in the last 6 months. I really like it!

Is the book any good or is it basically 400 pages of "today I went to the toilet without moving from my position and watched armoured divisions/air support take out all my targets"?

Nah, loads of action in it. Which is kind of the point- they were expecting a quiet deployment and were under seige for weeks.

In an interesting example of life imitating art, imitating life there's a scene which the author describes as being 'like the street shooting bank robbery scene in Heat'. Having watched the DVD extras in Heat, I know that it was done in such a way as to be realistic with consultancy from Andy McNab to make sure it was accurate!

Well worth reading!

I especially like the bit when the Special Forces guy turns up on base in the middle of the seige to help them out... and brings a Barrett 50cal with him!
