A section of one of the new Aircraft Carriers is currently being towed up the East Coast. Apparently it has just passed Grimsby. I wouldn't mind
taking Junior to see it but am not sure how to find out/work out what time it may be passing the coast near us. Probably the nearest point for us to
get to easily would be Seaton Carew or Hartlepool.
Has any one any idea how long it would take a tug to tow a section of an aircraft carrier that far ??
Thanks
Jon
Take some piccies for the collective if you see it

I will do. Apparently each section being built in 5 different shipyards arounnd the country. These are then all being towed to Rosyth on the West Coast, to be assemble in a pupose built dock.

Gordon Brown's constituency....can't think why they chose Rosyth then. It isn't even a commercial yard with 100s of years of ship building experience like somewhere on the Clyde or Harland & Wolff in Belfast.

You are correct, I didn't realise his constituency was the next one across. Roysth Naval Base (there are no Royal Dockyards left now) is operated by Babcocks who also run Devonport Naval Base.
If I remember correctly the primary reason was the availability of a large enough dry dock to build it in, and even at that it was extensively modified
