This many sound crazy, but my wife is Chinese so it's correct. i.e. I'm not going to argue with her

Its the word for between 7 and 9 in the morning. Prononuced "Sun" in Cantonese or "Chen" in Mandarin.

Her guess it means first thing in the morning so "dawn" seems to be the best fit, but it doesn't really make sense on it's own.

The translation into English, will be '8' then.

A Chinese lady I work with says:-

It means the fifth of twelve Earthly Branches which in combination with Heavenly Stems were used by the ancients to designate years, months and days.

It can also mean the period of the day from 7:00 am to 9 am.

It is normally a name for a boy.
A nice name.

I have just had it translated by my Chinese colleague as well. Confirms what has already been said. Here is his reply

It is right.

There are four different meanings about this character.

1. The fifth of the twelve earth branches, which stands for dragon.
2. Using it as time, for example ‘ ~ hour ‘ means 7am to 9am.
3. General name of sun, moon and stars.
4. Means morning.

Thanks everyone that's great - we thought it was dragon but we weren't sure.

Also we weren't sure if it was Chinese or some other language so that's helped.

BTW. the Chinese Lady that told me what it meant also said she had seen an English guy with a prominent Chinese tattoo that said 'rice'
Must have thought it looked good at the local takeaway!
