Any ever broken a key inside a door lock of a upvc door in a conservatory

ive tried persuading it out from the other side but the spare key isnt long enough

Ive tried using a pair on needle nose pliers to pull it out but cant get purchase on the broken key

try using a snapped hacksaw blade , junior hacksaw type, the small teeth will grip the snapped key with a bit of jiggling

ah and then try pulling out the broken key????

is there a bit of the key poking out the lock? say 1mm or so? if it sticks out a bit, how about a drop of superlgue on the bit that broke off in your hand, and try and stick the 2 bits together and pull it out? making sure no glue goes into the lock obviously

it may still work, if you put the glue on the bit thats not in the lock it may work, just make sure none goes in the lock itself

have you tried a needle i fit windows/doors etc for a living and this has worked many times .i wouldnt try the superglue if i was you if you have a fine needle long enough it may even go from the other side

i wont and i dont trust myself not to glue the whole lock shut

Long handled allen key, 1mm or 1.5mm and push from other side along the top of the key slot. ie where the back of the key would go.

make sure it's straight up and down, or horizontal, whichever way the key goes into the lock normally.

if it's snapped off turned slightly, you won't be able to pull or push it out.

assume it's one of those barrel locks you change easily but the door is locked so you cannot get at the screw. I've had a couple where the keys have been lost - bloody kids lose everything. I found they drill out quite easily if you drill where the key goes in. When you have drilled the lock out you should be able to rotate the barrel so it unlocks. Then it's easy to change it

cant you use a key to open it from the other side? Then just remove lock and replace, as said its so easy you wont believe it.

who supplies replacement locks

If its a Euro lock just change the complete barrel and key.

B&Q, you just need to know the length of the lock, held in with one screw,
I bought a reduced price front upvc door for my sisters house last week, and the lock and handle set are seperate, and was just over £7.
the sets were hiding behind the doors, in small unmarked brown boxs, (apart from a 8 digit num)
normal price locks were about 15 quid, so if there the same length then your sorted.

If it is this type, it's quite easy to drill out the core of the lock.

(That's if the door is locked. If the door is unlocked, just remove the screw and change it is stated above. )

I found the "key" to drilling out a lock of the yale type is to drill at the top of the slot where the jaggedy teeth are on the key. That's were all the pins are.

I didn't know this the first time I drilled out a lock and it took much longer than needed as basically I drilled out half the tumbler mechanism!!! Good thing that lock was brass

All sorted now thanks for everybodies help.

A little tip for anybody in the future.

If sufficient pressure is applied to the barrel by the spare key in the opposite side to the broken key, you can turn the mechanism to turn the broken key & lifter so you can get the lock out to replace it.

I was very tempted to drill it & try gluing it but didnt have to in the end. The 1mm allen key was looking quite an attractive option too
