most people on here would say that (in no particular order) MK, MAC#1, MNR, GTS all make decent kits.

I would say that it is important to be fairly close geographically to where you live so that you can visit them easily if you need to.

If you want to compete in motorsport then the MNR is the one to go for

Cheers

Mark

personally i've had a robin hood, which arnt the best at the time i had mine but were much cheaper but needed extra work on it to make it fit etc

currently i have a MK, build and fit much better. and lots of them on here. price not to bad, loads of spares around on the site too.

Welcome to the Madhouse. Like Mark says, location may be an influencing factor over which kit you decide to go for but seeing as you've asked, I'd recommend the MK Indy. Quite simply, it's the best kit out there. (In my unbiased opinion )

Have a look at our build and rebuild diaries to give you some idea of how easy they go together.

If you're in no rush, wait for the spring and get yourself along to some shows and have a good look round. More importantly, don't part with your cash until you've had a ride in one.

I have had a Test drive in a caterham so that is what got me thinking about building my own nice car to drive and nice price to go with them

I live in Liverpool so don’t know which supplier is closest

MAC#1 are in Sheffield
MK are in Nottinghamshire
Caterham are in Surrey
Westfield are in the West Midlands
Shawspeed (are probably your closest) are in Warrington
Luego are in Peterborough
Quantum are in Devon
MNR - not sure

Have a look here

Of course I'd recommend MAC#1. Your best bet is to do exactly what youve done with Caterham and go to the manufacturers and speak to them, see how they treat you - demonstrates their customer services, and see how you get on with their various models

I have helped build a MK and I am building an MNR. To be perfectly honest there is good and bad points with them all.

For me the MNR looks the part, has some nice design touches, Marc is a very competent engineer and is localish which plays a big part.

My Mac#1 has gone to gether very well indeed with no major disasters. The problems i have had were with non-Mac1 supplied parts but there assistance was superb.
Geographical location is important but also is ease of build and customer service. For this reason iam biassed towards mac1.

I was very close to going for MNR. MK were close 3rd but i didnt get the feeling of good service when order placement time came.

Do a shortlist and try and visit them. MNR, Mk and Mac1 are all visittable in a day.

MNR are near Harrogate.

There is nothing wrong with the others mentioned here and a year ago there was very little to choose between the various manufacturers (except some seem to have better customer service than others) but the MNR has evolved and is now in my opinion the best of the bunch.

If having the best one is important to you then choose the MNR.

I have an Indy and I am sticking with it because I can't afford another one just yet, but when I do it will be an MNR because in terms of quailty of engineering, the quality of fibreglass, and because of the wealth of knowledge Marc has from his days as a racing driver with Nissan GB.

Hope this helps you with your choice.

Cheers

Mark

How about an Ultima ?

Seriously though, visit all the factories, get a test drive and see which people you get on with. I've found that the after sales at MAC#1 can't be faulted.

I contacted one manufacturer with a query before I started and they said the guy I needed to speak to was too busy, ring back tomorrow. Rang next day and he was still too busy. I never rang again.

One last thing, do yourself a favour and put a bike engine in it. Sorry had to get that in.

Ditto all the above. I would go so far as to say the customer service is legendary but wont as i know that upsets Hellfire.
Ive built one and would not hesitate building another. I looked at Westfield a while ago and fail to see how they can justify such a premium over a Mac1.
In all honesty if MK gave me the time of day at the shows and their factory then i would probs be a moderately happy Indy owner now. Maybe i owe the MK crew a drink or two

BEC or CEC - horses for courses. Your choice. The bec boys shout loud cos they all now have excess adrenalin production, if the government catch on id guess theyd make bec a class a drug. The cec men dont need to shout - proven formula. No right or wrong answers. Just depends what you are after and what you can afford.

Most helpful manufacturer

If you want the most help from a manufacturer I'd recommend Mac#1, any problem small or big they will spend time on the phone with you and not just fob you off once you have brought a kit.

Don't forget looks!
Thay all are a bit different here and there!
Grab yourself lot's of pics and fell in love with one.

Being local is a plus, but I'm buying one from Portugal without even seeinf it in flesh!

...and engine type will also make a big part of your decision. MNR seems to have a special touch with bike engines.
