Speed sensor & cable

Ever since the flood I had couple of weeks back my speedo and gear indicator have been up the creak. It started working after about a week when out for 20 miles + until it just started working again. That was until the clutch cable went again. Got one of MAC nextday and fitted it along with re-fixing in actuator, new gasket blah blah but after jacking it up to do all this the speedo stopped working again.

Im trying to figure out where it picks the speed from and how I can go about changing it with a new cable (which I already have). Taking the back cover of I can see the cable and it looks like it runs against the side of the frame. Due to crap lighting I havnt seen the pickup in the bay yet but its hard to see how I can change this w/out taking the bottom floor of the car off.

Excuse my ignorance - can anyone shed some light on this from possibly building one previously.

It probably has 2 magnets glued to the diff flange and a sensor mounted on a bracket under the diff unit.

To access it I would remove a seat and the tunnel side, probably the drivers side, It may only be the airgap of the sensor or a missing magnet that is your problem.

Yeah spoke to MAC today (this site is blocked at work so only just read the post). They said same thing.

Ive got it on axle stands and can just about see the magnets which look fine. Quite close to one another but all ok.

As for the cable what a job just so I can have a gear indicator and speed. Ive looked at all angles. I def need to get d.seat out and right side centre off which involves removing all them damn rivets...

Oh damn it...

Just got in from working on it since I finished work.

The magnet has come off the flange. Possibly from being too close to the other. I had a spare one I put on which seemed to show a speed although on a quick testdrive it seemed to only read a lower speed than I was actually doing and after 10 mins stopped working so chances are the naff quick job I did has come off however atleast I know the fault so no removing panels! I can just about get to it with a set of needle nose pliers under the car

Oh and used my mates snap on brake bleeder to get fresh stuff in there & remove any poss air. Fluid is 3 1/2 years old and wow what a difference. Sharper, more feeling with less pressure required! Used Halfords Racing dot 4...worked a treat!

Cheers Bigrich for giving me an idea on what to look for
