be
quick!
the rocket box's proper name is the type E
the 5 speed type 9 has the same 23 spline shaft (just coz you said it needs to be 23 splines for the stronger box)
they're the same physical size.
i think the rocket is a little stronger though
how much power are you wanting to put through it?

don't write OT on a new thread title, you're creating the topic, everything you write is very much ON topic!

Blake, if you look at your link the questions at the bottom someone asks how many splines on the input shaft and he says 20.

The type 9 is a 23x1" input shaft, identical to the type e box.
Unless for some reason you specifically need the 4 speed i would just stick a type 9 in.
Cheers,

^ yep, 5th would be nicer on motorways anyway
david, wasn't the type e a bit stronger though? or was the 5th gear the only difference?

I have a spare 4 speed. It's like a 4 speed type 9. I'll count the splines tonight.

I think the boxes are physically the same. The weakest point in the type 9 is the laycluster needle roller bearings. In a HD box these are replaced
with a proper roller bearing. As far as I know the laycluster design is identical between the 2 boxes.
