Donor-Age related Plate
Assuming I use enough of the donor to get said age related plate.
Is there anything stopping me changing the engine and box to the one I really want and still retain the age related one after I'm on the
road?

No. Im hoping my engine change pre IVA wont stop me getting an age related plate. I think iv used enough of the donor to get away with it.
How long can i resist the temptation to drop a V8 in?

Once your on the road you can pretty much do what you like! Within the rules of iva'ing etc

The only bits left on our car from the donor are the pedal box, steering rack (not the arms) and a bit of the roof we cut up and used as a panel

Why not change the V5 for your donor to the engine number of the engine you want to use then fit that from the start and save yourself a load of
grief.

well I have just got a good donor with a running engine. This will allow me to get on the road a lot faster. Also having a running engine combo to
sell will help buy the parts to get my dream engine combo in when the time is right.
Also I need to get rid of he donor sharpish too

Sorry to hijack this thread, but I have a related question:
If you do get an age related plate, what's the official build date (year) of the car? In other words: should you use a 1970 donor, would you get
a tax-free car, or would the "new" build car, with an age related 1970 plate, still need to pay taxes as a 2009 car?
Or if you have an age related plate with a 1982 donor, does that make the new car a 1982 car? This makes alot of difference in terms of emmisions etc.

No, the tax free bit goes with the chassis.
In the UK MOT the emissions go with the older of the engine or the car (build date not number plate afaik) or if Q plate visible smoke only. There is
a box suggesting all kitcars are visible smoke only which some have used, but it's not explicitly in the text like Q reg.
