replacing lower ball joint with a rose joint, drill out the taper?
I'm replacing the lower ball joint on the fury front unpright with a rose joint, the tapered inserts I got dont fit the escort upright (made for
cortina I think), is there any readson why I shouldnt just drill out the taper and use a standard bolt?

Morning Austen,
First guess would be that the taper works just like a morse taper on a drill and as such does not depend solely on bolt tension to stop rotation.
Hope that helps, and sorry if I've spoilt your cunning plan.

What size bolt would you need if you drill out to the size of the bottom of the taper ? It would be better if you got an adaptor and use the same size
bolt as the nut that holds the present ball joint.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Current ball joint uses 1/2", could drill out taper to 5/8", which would leave plenty of meat on upright (widest point of taper is
5/8", rose joint is a 5/8" so just use a decent quality 5/8 bolt.

the ball in the rose joint allows all the rotation, just like all the other pickups on the suspension

Yes of course, what I meant was that the taper stops the shaft rotation,.. probably only a problem in a poorly maintained system where the ball might
seize, or get stiff.

You can, but would need to ream the hole for a very close fit, better off buying pins to mount the rose joints

Where did you get the cortina taper adapters? Would you sell yours? I was about to get some made but it would save a lot if hassle if I didn't
have to!

Did anyone find a solution to this?
Im currently looking at the same problem and cant find a design/supplier of these taper adaptors anywhere and i really dont fancy drilling the
upright, id like to keep it a bolt on conversion!
ITS FINE! i welded it!

Yeah lol, realised they were still listed on that guys eBay page after I posted up here, only question Ive got is is a 5/8 rose joint a better choice
than an M16? As his taper bolts are for 5/8! I've never really messed about with rose joints :-S
