race technology dash2

Hello just curious as to what you dash2 owners are using to read your vehicle speed, the magnetic sensor from race technology themselves or a adapter that plugs into the gearbox?

I'm using the bolt type RT one (from demon tweets on ebay, as it was cheaper) for both wheel speed and rpm off one of the aux pulleys.
The wheel speed is taken off the drive shaft as my prop was spinning too fast and it didn't give me a reading over 20mph

I connected mine to the existing gearbox speed sensor (impreza) and fiddled with the pulse rate until it was correct usually 1, 2, or 4 pulses per rotation so easy to work out. GPS an option, though if car needs an IVA it will fail with a GPS speedo.

I'm afraid it'll be needing to pass the iva, I'll probably go for the race technology speed sensor, so attaching it to the prop is a no go? Should be able to get it on the front wheel

The only possible problem with using the front wheels is when the car is on the rolling road during IVA. As the back wheels will the turning and not the fronts. David Bailey had that problem and the iva man drove the car round the car park to test the speedo.

The lead supplied by race technology is long enough to reach the rear hub.

If your using sierra hubs, you can pick up off the rear of the hub against the wheel studs.

It's an easy job, whip the wheel, caliper and disc off and you can use one of the hub bolts to mount a bracket to target the studs.

Mine was off of a magnet that was araldited to the prop shaft.





Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

Was that with the old type of new type sensor?

I had all sorts of issues with a magnet on the prop. Same one as i used with my SPA speedo but for some reason above 70mph the reading became inconsistent. I think it may have been down to magnet strength, they have a built in noise filter so i think it may have been filtering the signal because the magnet was so weak.

I also had to change the power feed for the sensor, the Dash 2 voltage output is 5V ref, and the sensors working voltage was 4.5v-24v. I was finding that the sensor was cutting out due to it being so close to its minimum operating voltage. Gave it a fused 12v ign feed and its been fine ever since.
