Contemplating Mac#1 ZR with 2Lt Zetec
Hi all.
Been looking at kits for months and months now, been to shows and several manufacturers and feel like I am close to making a decision.
The Mac#1 seems a nice kit, the guys are very helpful and all in all I think I should be able to build for around £11k inc reconditioned Zetec and few
options.
I would appreciate some feedback from anyone who has built something similar, is the build OK, is there anything I need to know and is there another
kit I should consider.
The only other kit I am seriously considering is the F27 clubman and only because they offered me a full kit with everything included and everything
new except gearbox (recon) so it would be on a new plate. This includes a new Zetec but I am not sure about the build quality and can not find any
posts or build diaries.
I am new to this and have little mechanical knowledge (but keen to learn).
Any advice would be welcome.
Cheers
Liam

I can understand your choice of MAC#1 but don't discount MK Sportcars. Is there any reason in particular why you are choosing MAC#1 over MK?
Both are within driving distance from you - MK maybe a little closer actually.
More surprising is your choice of engine... although good, have you not heard of a BEC?

I can thoroughly recommend going with the MAC#1 kit
Youll find the build as easy or as hard as any other manufacturer but it will be easier with MAC#1 as the staff are the best guys in the business.
The important thing for me when looking to buy my kit was which manufacturers model I felt most comfortable in and then how easy i found the people i
would be speaking with about the build were to talk to.
MAC#1 won hands down on both elements and Ive never looked back and never felt the need to even contemplate speaking with any of the other
manufacturers for parts or service.

Cheers for the fast responses.
I have thought long and hard about BEC and it is very appealing.
Cheaper build, looks technically simpler and better performance
But..
I am after a fairly well rounded car that will be on the road 90% of the time and only on a track a couple of times a year. Also, I am not too
bothered about being the fastest thing on the road, I have had fast cars before but never really drove them that fast so I think a CEC will be better
suited to me. Plus I like reverse but I know you can get around this if you wish.
I have not placed an order yet so I may still change me mind.
And yes, I also considered MK cars as the cars looked really nice and were really good value but they basically said that BEC was the only way to go
and as I think I am really after a CEC, Mac1 seemed a better choice.
But that is why I am asking, to get other opinion.
Cheers

You won't go wrong with a MAC#1 - they are probably the nicest and most helpful blokes/manafactures you'll meet.
I'm sure you'll come in a long way under budget for a tidy Zetec'd one.

you won,t go far wrong with a mac#1 and a cec does make sound sense as a performance /day to day kit car
I know Mark is a car engine in a car fan whilst Col loves his bec's.
Either way welcome to the forum and i'm sure which ever way you go there will be lots of free advise and help to speed your build on its way

Have you checked the MNR out? The guys there are just as helpful as the fellas at Mac#1. To me they are equally on the customer service front.
Have a look at my blog as I am using a zetec with bike carbs that is currently standing me £5800. I'm very close to finishing it and I see no
reason to go past 8K either. Plus the kit has been discounted since I bought mine

Cheers for all the advice, I will certainly take a look at MNR as well.
To be honest, all of the kit car companies I have spoken to / visited have been really friendly and helpful. I guess that is what happens when you
work doing something you love.
Either way, I intend to order before the end of the week and can't wait to get stuck in.

I really enjoyed buyilding my Mac#1. I had very few problems and the ones i did have were quickly sorted by Mark and Col (not issues with the kit i
hasten to add - just my choice of bits).
For 11K i would have thought you could build with a modded Zetec on throttle bodies and end up with a very nice car indeed. A std Zetec even new or
recon should bring you in under budget. I put a Pinto with some very nice bits (dd2 pro etc) on the road for around 6K. Add 2K for very nice throttle
bodies and management plus perhaps extra 1K for new engine will come to about 9K. Nicer wheels and newer bits for current plate maybe 10K.
I felt Mac#1's support at selection stage was about right, and was proven to be invaluable during the build. Most of my bits came from Mac#1 in
the end - defo a good 1 stop shop.
MK's are good but imho Mac#1 had the edge both on the product and the after sales service. Cost wise there isnt much between MK, MNR and Mac#1
for the finished car.

Thanks for all the positive advice. Seems several people have built cars for a lot less than I am estimating. My list of rough costs is included
below. Am I over estimating / forgetting anything important?
Major Kit (all stages) £5277
Recon Engine package on throttle bodies £3000
Donor kit £400
Willwood brakes £750
Hoses £140
HP Fuel pump + filter £200
Colour options £40
Gaz gold upgrade £110
Elise lights £54
Digidash pack £170
Aero Screen £140
Wheels & Tyres £500
Roll cage £450
Any thoughts?

Placed order with Mac#1 on saturday..
but..
Went with the intention of ordering a ZR with a 2lt Zetec bu thanks to a great ride in a stunning looking Worx Type R (sorry, cant remember the guys
name but cheers if you read this), I changed my mind completely and ordered a Worx Type R with, I think, a Honda engine kit.
Now all I have to do is wait 8 weeks (and clear out garage) before the fun begins!!
Cheers for all your comments
