Hi All, Just got back after going for a run in the Furyblade, it started getting dark so put side lights on and within 500yds it had killed the battery. Have had no problems starting car during the day or any other day.
Suggestions as to whar problem is likely to be

Cheers Kev

Kev,

Best to start by checking the battery is getting a charge. Basic test is check voltage on battery without the engine running (~12v). Drop your meter over the battery again with the engine running and I would expect to see between 13v-14v. That will eliminate the charging circuit.

Looks like an alternator problem or alternator connector as always first step is charge the battery as you need a semi-decent charge in the battery to test charging voltage properly.
Best to do a low current charge rather than boost charge.

With a half decent charge in the battery and the engine not running expect at least 12.5 to 12.8 volts across battery.
Normally this should rise to over 13.4 volts with the engine running.

At 2000 RPM expect 13.4 to 14.8 volts

Then at at 2000 to 25000 rpm test under load ie switch headlamps and heater blower on again expect 13.4 to 14.8 volts.
Hold the RPM them switch headlamps and heater blower off voltage at should not jump above 14.8 volts at any point.

Thanks for reply, checked the battery earlier and while the car was running it was showing 11v. with the car not running was showing 8v. I will charge battery later and test it again tomorrow.

The battery i have is a Lucas YTX14BS
12V12AH

its nearly always the reg/ rectifier that go kapput on these things, remember on the bike its mounted in the cooling airflow unlke BEC,s where its hidden away so its gets soooooo hot, i upraded to a 1000rr one
