Aren't they 8 valve engines in the 316 compact? surely you'd be better off going for a 318 as there are a lot of them about.

Yes its the 8 valve engine. Just need the 318 is or ti head for the extra horses.

The M4X BMW series of engines are very tall with a deep sump.
Which makes for some fun with packaging, though as GKD have shown it can be done.

I have been using the M44 out of a 98 318IS for my build, they come with a remote shifter .
