After opinions on IVA and the interpretation over immobilizers.
I have a steering lock on a fiesta coloum which is tempremental and i dont trust it not to come on at the right moment so i was thinking of cutting it
off and putting a hidden switch in the ECU power supply line.
IVA is realistically spring any experiences or views ?

Yes , i wouldn't want a temperamental steering lock!
You need two security device's,I can't see a hidden switch being accepted tbh?
If you've only got ignition key after removing steering lock the easiest thing to do will be get a Thatcham approved immobiliser fitted imo.
Hidden switch doesn't count. I went with a immobiliser I fitted myself, no problem with that and ignition switch for IVA.
Pretty sure the IVA manual States immobilisers need to be thatcham approved?

Sterling Excel is cheap but decent.
Thatcham isnt required, but cant just be switch.
Can also be a mechanical form.
in addition to the normal “ignition” switch, that the vehicle is permanently fitted with an anti-theft device or an electronic immobiliser that
can be activated to prevent the vehicle being driven or moved under its own power.
A mechanical anti-theft device could be a steering lock or transmission lock. An electronic immobiliser can be activated by the ignition key (so would
not be obvious) or could be separate - activated by a little fob type device
A manually operated battery master switch or a removable steering wheel would not be considered to be an anti theft device.
Cheapo one like this will do unless you plan on keeping it on post IVA.

I will have a look around starting with the ones mentioned if i am going to fit one it might as well be a good one then i can bin the ignition key and
fit the push button starter, after IVA.

I have fitted a couple of sterling immoblisers been ok no issues.
What ECU do you have? Most Ford OEM have Passive Anti Theft System (PATS)
One good reason to stick with OEM 
i have a cobra a8510 in, its brilliant - very easy to install and thatcham approved anyway

Worth mentioning that although the manual does define an "ignition switch" as being key operated, it's kinda hidden away. I passed with a toggle switch and immobilser, no-one demanded a key operated switch. YMMV of course...
My SR2 is using the OEM MK2 MX-5 ECU with built in immobiliser from my donor. Although I have no proof of spec./data I can prove it works as I have 2
keys which both fit the ignition barrel (both original Mazda), however, only one will actually start the car as I have kept the loop aerial around the
ignition barrel. The other key opened the boot and turns the ignition switch but will not start the car.
Like many I will get the car through IVA and then decide whats best for me.
