summers going quick, and still haven't got my weekend/trackday toy..
Thoughts on the following would be great..

I was in that boat earlier in the year Mate, so I feel your pain.
I'm still a relative beginner at this, but I was warned (after nearly lumbering myself with a real disaster) to get LOADS of pictures of the
chassis/welding at the very least, and preferably look at the car first. Having done all of that, I still manage to drag my trailer over 200 miles
to collect another heap of junk, not buy it, and drag the trailer all the way home empty
The tiger is a better price, and has a Pinto which is what I have now, and mine seems to go well. BUT, no pictures showing any detail so you defo need
more, AND, and I quote:
"The car carries the registration plate of the donor car and is NOT on a Q PLATE."
Didn't think that was possible, so check that it is correctly registered, although I'm a beginner as I said so I could be wrong.
Locost again doesn't show much detail, so more photos/look at it. I don't like clamshell wings personally, and if you're going to do
track days or fast stuff, then you'll probably end up swapping them which will leave some unsightly holes. Plus if the 1300 "expired",
I wonder if the rest of the car has been hammered too?
No doubt someone with much more knowledge and experience will be long soon..........
I'd say the Tiger Avon is the better of the two.
Bear in mind that the Avon is pretty small by 'seven type replica standards' and is nearer to a Caterham in size.
However, I'm 6ft tall and fitted in mine just fine (although I had a floor mounted pedals which helped significantly for leg room.)
As regards the registration, a search on Askmid has it listed as a Tiger so it may well be that the seller meant it has a reg no. age- related to
that of the original donor rather than the donor's number itself!
Seek clarification from the seller that it has been SVA'd and correctly registered on the V5c as a Tiger Avon.
The Avon is the better car in my eyes a bit basic but a tidy build not an issue as your bound to upgrade it pinto s are a good strong basic engine for your first car if you could get it for less than 4 k it would be a pretty good buy moe pictures of engine bay etc .. Would be good
I;ve texted the Tiger Avon seller and asked for closer pics of the car.
I get the impression its a well done kit, but will obviously have to view.
Am i right in thinking this should weight 600kg (with engine) ?
Good point about the size - im a lanky git at 6,3ft, so it does limit my options.
Hey Mash - how you finding that Pinto engine? Ive had my heart set on a Zetec, but i guess the Pinto is well proven and still puts out some decent bhp

Tiger looks good to me - a good basis for making it your own. Locost looks a bit rough.
Only advice from me would be to go and look at them; its amazing how pictures can flatter a car, and you want to be 100% sure you know what
you're buying.
Pintos are fine, and can make big power if you pour your wallet in, but they are heavy. Pinto to Zetec swap is not the easiest, you are as well to go
for Duratec.

Yes, I agree with everything that has been said about the Pinto. It's a good engine, and you can get some good power out of it, but it will cost
you and it is pretty heavy. You will get excellent performance from a standard Duratec, and it's lighter too.
Mine is fine, but it's a standard engine, and my long term plan will be a Duratec.
ETA Just checked on the DVLA web site and it is correctly registered as a Tiger. Bad news though is that he has ended the auction for some
reason....
E again TA Of course if you go down the Duratec route then igniton/fuelling etc., becomes far more complicated.......

Yes, around 600kg is about right. With a Zetec in at least, maybe a little more with a Pinto.
Being tall like me (I'm 6' 1", you'll struggle with the top of screen being right in your lline of sight. The Mk2 bodywork (one with boot lid) has a raised screen mount on the scuttle to help, but that looks like Mk1. I went aerosreen anyway, so dodged that issue.
If possible, I would take an kit owner/builder along to view any prospective purchases.
i don't know any tame Kit car owners to drag along.
Seems like the Tiger has gone anyway.
Any meets in or around Suffolk i could pop along to?

Don't worry about Q plate. It just means the builder didn't lie his arse off and forge receipts when he claimed to use new parts during the build. Very few kits are built with genuine new parts! Q plates in the kit world are perfectly acceptable and actually advantageous when it comes to mot time with emissions.
Indeed. No reflection of build quality. I get the impression some people are a bit snobby about a Q plate though.

The next Tiger open day is 30th July at the factory in Wisbech. A friend of mine is going and I am tagging along. I would suggest you try several Tigers out for size, many are very tiny. There are few that I can get into and I also have problems with the foot space being too small for my size 10's. I went to the National Kitcar show a couple of years ago with a tape measure and looked at all the cars there with a view on me fitting in with comfort. I woild have liked the GBS Zero wide-body or a Westfield but settled on a Haynes Roadster which is almost at IVA. Good luck.

Seems to be a cheap Avon on eBay, orange one in Essex. Needs some work but the price seems good. Just to add, I can only view on my phone so it might be pants.
