Make sure you secure your bonnet catches correctly.......

jossey - 4/9/14 at 12:49 PM

Ouch. :-(

Any other tip I found out yesterday is when you have spent 2 hours covering your bonnet with carbon fibre vinyl don't drop the grinder on it less than 5 mins later while it's still spun up.

coozer - 4/9/14 at 01:29 PM

Ha ha, been there done that, an upgrade to solid stainless catches with a securing pin is the way forward...

pekwah1 - 4/9/14 at 01:46 PM

i think just doing them up in the first place is probably the answer

I remove the bonnet after a run, then I have to refit it next time out, makes it less of a possibility to forget the catches

Small fry, you try forgetting to clip a QR steering wheel on properly.

That makes a man out of ya!

pekwah1 - 4/9/14 at 05:57 PM

I've got 2 captive fasteners in my bonnet down the center line i can see them when i'm in the car if there undone saved me once so far though i recon it might have ripped off a corner if i went much faster

Digimon - 15/9/14 at 12:50 PM

I've been there as well, luckily it didn't do to much damage

jeffw - 15/9/14 at 01:04 PM

I had a Caterham CSR260 in front of me lose his bonnet after the start of a sprint at Castle Combe this year.....problem is it is aluminium and folded in half !

loggyboy - 15/9/14 at 01:18 PM

I had a FB bonnet on my old nova and forgot to close the pins, first time I hit 20mph after leaving home it flipped over the whole car and land on the road behind. Fortunately the hinge bolts sheered straight away so it didn't hit the windscreen, and the person behind was far enough behind to easily avoid it.

Matt21 - 9/10/14 at 04:06 PM

serves you right for having a nova

i forgot my bonnet catches a few weeks back too probably serves me right for the nova comment

Ben_Copeland - 9/10/14 at 04:35 PM

I was lucky, I forgot to clip them back down when my head gasket had gone and I was limping home, it started lifting but I caught it in time.... It also caught on the exhaust manifold wrap, which helped.

Now I'm completely paranoid about the catches and check them all the time. Especially as I don't have a manifold for it to catch on now

Been there myself, put my hand up to stop it (was doing about 60mph). Nearly broke my thumb.

The Black Flash - 11/10/14 at 07:05 PM

Threads like this make me glad I've got a forward-hinged bonnet!
