Hi everyone - Just found this site - great information - so I thought Id chance my arm.
Im putting a K series into an MG MIdget. I have a caterham Bellhousing, T9 gearbox (sold to me as V6 Capri with long input) and a 1.6 from a 416.
My question is now that I mocked up the engine and gearbox, the input shaft is about 20-30mm short of the spigot bush - it only just enters the resses
in the flywheel....Is there an easy solution??
Many Thanks
JOn
I have put the long input shaft V6 box in my 7 and used the Caterham gearbox spacer which goes between the Type 9 boxand the bell housing effectively
shortening the input shaft by 30mm.
You may need the Capri clutch release bearing part No. QH 133 or 113 someone on hear will know
Snapper I think you have it the wrong way round, his shaft is not too long, it's too short.
Does the shaft stick out of the T9 bell housing by about 11/4" if so it's a V6 box, if not it's the 4 pot box, in which case your
stuffed, sorry. Regards Ray
yeah sounds like its not the V6 version of the T9 with the longer input shaft
time to get measuring
The exposed splines and smooth end shaft is 72mm in total which comes out of the nose piece which is another 73mm from the edge of the box....5
11/16th??
But no it doesn't stick out at all...
The annoying thing is that I have drilled out the chassis for the gearbox mounting - if I change the gearbox then I have lots of holes in the wrong
place???
Cheers

Reread sorry as Chippy said I have it the wrong way round, however if you get a V6 box it will fit straight on no re drilling, the box will stay where
it is.
V6 box is stronger and has better ratios, you won't have to spend more on a shorter bellhousing so it makes sense to fit it
Yes agree with what Snapper said, box is exactle the same, only thing different is the length of the shaft. You should be able to pick up a V6 box and sell the one you have, so shouldn't be a total loss. Cheers Ray
Many Thanks...
T9 for sale then!!
