Advice on fitting CVH sump on a Zetec silvertop

Got a couple of questions on fitting a CVH sump to a Zetec for those of you who have done it.

When fitting a CVH sump and pickup what do you do with the splash plate that is in the bottom of the Zetec engine, do you not fit it or modify it to fit?
Do you also cut down the studs that the main bearing caps fit over as they are too long and the sump won't fit.
The sump has bolt holes at the front and back of it but the zetec engine and sump only has bolt holes down the sides. Do you just block these up on the CVH sump or drill and tap the oil pump and crank oil seal carrier?

Firstly really don't bother.


Have you got the spreader plates ? you will never get it to seal with out.

Yes drill and tap the oil pump and rear carrier. The sump is so thin you need as much even clamping force as you can get.

you can just use the cvh windage tray so you can cut down the studs. You will have to make a hole for the dip stick.

Just my opinion and I have fitted two but wouldn't bother again now ive done a couple of blacktop sumps.

Best sump for a Silvertop Zetec (or Blacktop for that matter) is a properly modified Silvertop sump and pickup.

Scholar Engines sump is the best value and is as good as any of the competition. http://www.scholarengines.co.uk/Lowline%20sump.htm

Do it once and do it right, DIY options can easily kill your engine.
