max weight for blade engine?
2b_pablo - 20/2/08 at 12:40 PM

hi all strongly contemplating buying a 900cc blade engine for my RH but they are a little more lardy than usual with sierra rear beam and monocoque chassis.

Ive stripped a lot of stuff out and more will be going but what sort of weight are you talking about before fitting a blade engine would be pointless?

cheers all

how lardy are you?

i'd think at 650 kg without driver, you'd be pushing the envelope.

if you're 18 stone though, even less.

Hi difficulty will be around clutch slip, and low power bottom end.

Quality clutch springs, and a decent clutch plate kit should help the first, and good clutch control the second.

The only way you will know accuratly is to get your car weighed. I weighed my rolling chassis with 4 cheap scales from tesco (£4 ea), if you have an engine hoist, whip out the lump but leave in things that a bec install like radiator, header tank, battery etc. and weigh it. If you weigh it with the engine in it won't be clear enough I don't think.

I can find the rough weight of a pinto and type-9 then subtract off. Is guess it would be in the region of 500kgs with no engine in.

im 14st so lardy enough

has an uprated clutch btw

Blade engine will be about 75kg's i'd guess (very rough guess based on how much my back hurt the next day!) So that will make a car weight of 575kg's, sounds reasonable to me.

But be interesting to hear what others think. The only thing that may be an issue is if you ever wanted to fit a full roll cage...

not fussed on the cage, car will only be doing a few trackdays per year and a little road use.

ive just removed my turbo blade engine, bit of a struggle but you can carry it on your own.
But think when i build the car engine was approx 65 kg, so mr worX was about right.
