Snowden. Er, by bike

Peeps,

Going to be staying near Llanrug in N Wales in a few weeks time and have got it into my head to have a go at cycling up (then down) Mt Snowden.

Now, has anyone here done it, what's it like, how long, how far etc etc etc.

I know there are restrictions on time of day for cycling (heard after 5pm) and I'll prob use the longest path as it's gentlest, but anyone got anything to add?

Cheers v much

Simon

Use the main trail (pig track) shouldn't be a problem but watch out for soil errosion.

Keep a very close eye on the weather as it will close in very fast to 0 visability.

With a bike u only have 1 viable route up And down. Although I have never ridden up it I have done many accents ( I'm a former kids climbing instructor).

Contrary to the above I would say the ranger path is much more appropriate. I have stayed at a YH at the bottom of it and it's far and away the widest of the tracks and a fairly steady accent. The Pyg (not being pedantinc but if he's googling for it might be useful) track is quite narrow but might be fun on the way down. I've done this route many times and Crib Goch etc. and I wouldn't disuade you from trying but normally the Pyg track ends up being busier than the rest.

Not sure on timings but I'm guessing a couple of hours.... Stay on the bottom sprocket and plug away!

You've just reminded me of how long its been since I got on my Cannondale

I did it a few years ago.... Ride up the miners track to the lakes... then carry up the 500 feet or so of steps to the top....

Then you can ride all the way down from the top straight into Beddgellert..... I did it in peak summer during the "no riding" season... feck em!!

I did a good bit of the miners track a good few years ago. In January.

Bloody great fun, if slightly scary due to the wind.

This pub used to do great food, and it's on the way back if you're in llanberis.
