Anyone using the Jag AJ-30 engine from the S type?
Thinking off putting one of these into an old Capri, so wondering if anyone on here has any experience of them?

Got a mate putting one in a reliant scimitar.
Couple of pointers, vct system to deal with, fuel pressure is controlled by the ECU (no return pipe), no easy non dmf flywheel (possible Mondeo st220
solid swap but needs work), manual gear box ratios are not idea, need to look at diff ratio.
If you search the Web there is one in a lotus esprit and also a westfield.

Fitting one in my MK, I would think it would be a doddle fitting one in a Capri, in comparison

Thanks for the replies.
So have you had a problem with gear ratios? Are you using the original gearbox? Any other significant issues?
The chap who put it in the Westfield used a Type 9 box with a custom bell housing and Emerald ecu. What have you done?
Seems like a great choice for compact non turbo power

I did work out the gearbox ratio/speed using the Getrag 221 that came with the S-Type.
1st is very short giving 43mph, and top is a direct 1:1 ratio giving 182mph,this is with the S-type 3.07 diff.
I decided that it wasn't much of a problem for road use, 1st is obviously a crawler ratio but the other four are evenly spaced.
With the 3.62 diff that is already fitted to the MK I would get around 55mph in second and 145mph in top, with an even spacing through the other
gears. I have a 3.38 diff that would put the top theoretical speed to around 160mph, that would give a more relaxed cruise at 70mph.
If I was going to do a lot of Track Days, I would probably think again, but only after tying it out as is

Thanks for that, good to know I can use the original gearbox then!

There was a Lotus Excel at Prescott yesterday (still there today, I guess) with a twin turbo Jag V6 engine in it:

Like 40 inches i am using Jag gearbox for now and see how the ratios really work on the road. It is such a compact engine especially if you remove the
waterpump and use an electric one. Will be using Jenvey throttle bodies and CANEMS ECU. Adds a lot of height but can just make it work in the Viento.

It or the Mondeo equivalent is the next engine I want to have a bash at and jag donors are vey afordable, less so for the ford. I would have it
running on the standard ecu

They certainly are cheap, a 3.0 S type didn't sell on ebay at £500 yesterday, it was local and had 6 months MOT and 112k on the clock!!

Hi there, this is my first post! I have come here to have a read and see what I can Learn about these engines. I have a few that came cheaply and
would like to use them in my banger racers for cheap reliable power.
A friend who is good with wiring was tasked with reducing the original loom down to a minimum (he does this with ease for many vehicles) but for this
engine it has become a real pain. So my question is what are guys using this engine doing with regards to wiring? Is it possible to cut down an
original loom or will I have to look into aftermarket systems and possibly removing the VVT?
Would it be possible to fit Mondeo st parts to remove the VVT if this is required?
Any help greatly received!
