How does it affect someone who passed SVA last year ?
Car first registered 2007, engine from 1985 ?
I have a strange feeling I'm going to be much worse off
I'll see if i can search for any info

From how understood it your emissions are based on the age of the engine (hence why I had all of the grief proving my engines age) so the tax will be based on the engine age too.

If not then my tax may be a tad expensive when it comes up in July

Cars registered before 1 March 2001 (based on engine size)
Private/light goods (TC11)

Engine size (cc) Not over 1549
£120.00
£66.00

Over 1549
£185.00
£101.75

After 1st March 2001 it's done on the emissions.

what of i register my car as a Q plate? doesn't that assume 1975 as a registration date?

just clutching at straws

edit: oh, wait! my engine's 1998 anyway

For SVAd cars the tax will ALWAYS be based on engine size as if the vehicle was pre-2001. The modern system of taxing based on CO2 cannot be applied as there is no way of working out the grammes per kilometer figure required.

Measuring the g/km is an incredibly involved procedure requiring a chassis dyno capable of going though the EU drive-cycle and exhaust gas collection and analysis equipment.
