Home made electric reverse is now in and working! yes its slow, but only weighs 2.5 Kg and takes 10amps max...

so what sort of motor is that moving the gear wheel then? looks like its the whole motor being lifted into contact then hit the power button - is that how it works? cool idea if it is..

Yes the whole motor/gearbox is moved up to the diff mounted spur gear, its a small motor with a high ratio gearbox of about 100:1 and is much better than using a brutal starter motor. Gears are 10mm alloy. It moves my car back at about 2mph but it will move it over a 1" block of wood no problem

I like that, looks slick, will look nice all finished off, what does cost then mate?

Just an update on my electric reverse set up.

I have been using it over the summer with no problems so far. It is slow but will move the car backwards every time. Its been wet and dry several times now!

I was wondering what the interest would be if I developed this into a kit. The main demand I would think would be from the racing fraternity because of its light weight. I would have to put some work into some cad drawings etc. and I dont want to do that without some feedback. I would also need a guinea pig to try installing it in their car. I can take some more pics etc if wanted.

Well, that's three live axle cars Andy... we'll await your response!

i would guess the race boys would need it a bit faster so the gear ratio on the motor may need altering

Nobody is realistically going to reverse in a race... If your nose is against a barrier you're virtually out of it anyway. 10k rpm and a dumped clutch will get you out of most situations.

I'm interested in a kit as i have a live axle aswell.
