i think my blade engine has gone bang

i was taking it for a quick run and heading back home when there was a "clunk clunk, a bang and a strange whirring noise then the engine died" and i came to halt , looking at the engine there was some smoke coming out of 2 of the carbs and oily sludgeon the engine casing where the carbs join the engine

any ideas what the problem is?

anyone know anyone who good with blade engines local to trowbridge wilts?

cheers stu

Some of what coming out of the carbs?? Fuel over the engine casing is a strange one - can you see if it is leaking from the carbs down onto the engine?

smoke was coming out the carbs and it was an oily sludge coming out of where the carbs join the engine casing

Gotcha - oil smoke would be the obvious answer

Doesnt sound good but my bet would be damage to the head / valves / cam etc, or a holed piston. Sounds like a cam cover off job to see if there's any obvious damage as a first port off call and then pop the head off if not (assuming you cant do a compression test)

I guess the good news is you may just be able to source a new head off someone who's broke a conrod - see what the damage is to your engine.

Probably better to simply buy a new (second hand) engine and swap it over, rather than pay for diagnosis work on that one and then still have to fit a new engine. Evin of you don't know much about engines you ought to be able to at least have the head off for a look.

There's a blade engine on ebay starting price £295

Al Boulton on the RGB site was selling off lots of fireblade bits and bobs. Include whole engines and bits of engine.

He will also know something about them so might be worth a call.

Piston let go? Had the same symptom when my Zetec went bang earlier this year
